My first time here, and I have never in my years on Earth seen anything like this place. An unbelievable selection of freshly prepared foods: salads, soups, and unusual deli items (chicken Francese meatballs, vinegar pepper pork chops, etc.) that I have never seen anywhere else. Fresh baked goods, etc. And I barely scratched the surface of the store. I just wanted a quick lunch and I have dietary concerns. I got simple chicken salad from the deli, and it was fresh chicken (not canned), celery, onions, and mayonnaise. That's it. It was delicious and it was just what I wanted. They have a full-service pizzaria, the smells of which were driving me mad. A half-aisle of grab-it-and-go salads, buffalo wings, Chinese and pasta entrees, fried won-tons, all kinds of things. Take it home and heat it up. They also have a self-serve hot buffet for breakfast and for lunch (and probably dinner, too). The selection here is just insane. No, it is definitely not cheap, but not unreasonable for what you get. It is very high quality. The deli service is a little slow, because I noticed that some customers were quite demanding. One gentleman in front of me insisted that the deli guy shave the fat off of the Prosciutto BEFORE he sliced and weighed it, and the deli guy accomodated him. In an ordinary supermarket, they probably would have told him to get lost. But, if you are willing to pay a premium price, then you deserve premium service. I've read another review where the poster thought she was being "racially profiled" and felt unwelcome in the store. Huh? Your money is just as green as mine. And, if it makes you feel better, they put a "PAID" sticker on my purchases too. Honest to God, it just never ends. I think that for a single person or a couple, you would never again have to grocery-shop or cook for the rest of your life if you had a place like this in...
Read moreVery disappointing replacement to the former Turco's location. Lower quality, higher prices, less selection of specialties and quality. The down turn in quality is store wide and every aspect of the store has changed for the worse. Here are a few examples.Went from a rotating five excellent fresh homemade soup selection to three daily soups clearly prepared off site that are not good. Eliminated freshly prepared individual meals. Mashed potatoes to take home went from a manageable single serving package @ 1.99 to a $4.99 portion .No more roasted red or sweet potatoes. The cases are crammed with food you will not want to take home. Store prepared foods and limited in selection and do not even come close quality of taste to what was sold by Turco's. Produce is not that good nor is the meat and poultry.Fish remains OK but that could change based on the rest of the store. The specialty selection of interesting low priced pastas and products and specials you were used to at Turco's are gone. The replacements are some private label and low quality prepackaged merchandise and nothing that is impressive. Catering is declining in quality. Platters look like something you would expect from a small corner deli. They are smaller and prepared with much less care and presentation then Turcos. This is no longer a high quality specialty store. Even the soy sauce served with the sushi is lower quality. These folks chose not to learn from and keep the best of what was an established institution that served the local community. This is now a formula store and I am sure the quality will continue to erode as time goes on. Something will fill the vacuum left by the loss of Turco,s . It will not be Uncle Giuseppe's and...
Read moreClearly not a smart management move - then and now . They paid a good price for Turcos and it 's customer base . Turcos was a very successful established operation with a strong following. Why did they buy it only to change it to something so different? Another point is , how did experienced grocery management people manage to make the store worse.and expect it to continue to do as well? What were they thinking?Who did you think you were competing with? With ACME around the corner , you weren't going to do it on price. Deciccos and Whole foods are with miles. And clearly after visiting your store you are not aiming at their customers. Turcos had a successful formula in this market that was making money over a long period of time. And you blew it up on the first day.. Did they understand anything about the demographics of the Turcos customer base they were buying? Another bad sign was that all if not most of the employees left ? Why? That was a clear signal to every customer that something was going on. If I was running this company I would bring in the people behind this deal and ask them (very closely) how they planned to retain the good will and reputation of the Turcos name and franchise they paid so dearly for. Ask the to Tell me how you take a profitable , successful well run business buy it and destroy it. You might want to put them incharge and tell them they are history if they don't turn this around. Someday maybe sooner rather than later you will find this will be case study in business school. What do you think the morala of that story will...
