Iâve been a member of this gym off and on for over 5 years. Most recently, I signed up on a month-to-month plan, as I was expecting to be sent out of state on military orders but did not know exactly when that would happen. The day finally came, and once I was settled in at my new location in Texas I tried to cancel my plan. And thatâs where the fun begins. Naturally, to make it as difficult as possible (attempting to capitalize on people who are too lazy to bother with cancelling their membership), LA Fitness requires you to either go in-person to your gym or send in a letter of cancellation, so I did the required steps and sent in the letter. I received a confirmation that my membership would be cancelled. That was in early November.
Afterwards, I continued to be billed for a membership. After several phone calls, no one could identify why I was still being billed, including one person who claimed I had two memberships. However, I was finally assured that the âproblem would be fixed,â and the person on the phone sounded genuinely interested in resolving it, so I gave it a rest.
Itâs now January. I was just billed again for yet another monthâs dues, so I called one last time. Lo and behold, the person on the line claimed I had ACTUALLY signed up for a one-year contract - and that I had done it at a gym I havenât been to in years. They further informed me that I would continue to be billed. They gave me a corporate number and said âmaybe somebody there can help.â Of course, we all know that the corporate line is where complaints go to die. They havenât been true to their word at any point during this process, so, frankly, who cares what a talking head at corporate will tell me - I donât trust them anymore.
Malicious bait and switch, or incompetence? Either way, shame on me for falling for it. Always read the fine print, boys.
If I attempt to block transactions at my bank, I guarantee that they will try to report it to collections. Whoâs going to get into an involved battle with credit reporting agencies over $100-200? So, it stings, but Iâll just have to let them leech another couple months off me before I wash my hands of them for good.
Anyway, this has been a pretty disappointing experience overall. I used to love this gym, but I wonât be coming back. Remember, with big corporate gyms:...
Read moreI have been a true loyal member of Fitness International / LA Fitness for a long time. I liked the atmosphere & most of the staff members are amazing. I wanted to share a few words & say how surprised I am with a brand like Fitness International / LA Fitness. It is surprising & disappointing to see that some of our Tucson locations still have so much outdated equipment. I visit many locations in Tucson & the care & attention to the locations at Wilmot & Tucson Spectrum are the worst (i.e. dirty bathrooms, outdated or out of service machines). The locations on Ina, Golf Links & 1st ave are fantastic. I definitely recommend them. Iâve always felt some pride being a member of this brand (LA Fitness) but with so many other options & being able to compare other locations & brands, I started to feel as if the LA Fitness brand in Tucson started to go down. It has lost itâs high end quality of accommodations & some service. Now, about member services: I spoke to an individual responsible for memberships at this location (Wilmot) & didnât get a friendly, warm or even professional welcome. I questioned a simple item on my membership & the best he could do was, and I quote âI know what Iâm talking about, I do this everydayâ & that was that. No option or solution to my inquiry. He said âI know what I am sayingâ but would not welcome feedback & his lack of professionalism was seen a mile away being that he conducted this business in the front counter & not in a desk & away from other staff or members coming in. As a respected business professional, I was very surprised. I didnât stay to argue or even prove to him that there could be a possibility he was making a mistake. My time, as for many people, is too valuable to use with individuals who just donât want to help. (Outcome pending). I will post a solution as soon as a member of the Corporate office provides a simple solution for a loyal member. Weâll see. For now, I will continue to be a loyal member with the hopes that some of our local locations (in Tucson) are able to move to the next level in fitness accommodations. PS. Most of the staff at the Wilmot location are great & their hard work is...
Read moreGot tired of doing random workouts and needed help. So I used my membership to speak to a trainer. My appointment started with Josh, he heard my goals and desires. Immediately heard his passion for fitness in every word spoken and knew the perfect trainer for me.
Enter Fransico, this man guided me, showed me and corrected my form. Listened to my goals, gave great advice and focus. Loved hearing his personal stories of âHitting the Wallâ and pushing through. Guided me through the machines I wasnât familiar with and gave me the advice and motivation to keep getting a consistent and good workout. Gave me the confidence to attend the gym on my own and feel good about my workouts.
Sometimes the itâs the small things that make the biggest impressions. Simple words of âgood job, one more, looking good, you got itâ made the difference in completing a good set.
Also had the pleasure meeting Lexi during one session and she will be a great fit to your team. Motivated young lady and I can see the passion to become a great trainer in her future. I actually expect that because she was being guided and mentored by the âGreat Fransicoâ
I thank the entire team, from the greeting of the day when I enter, have a good workout and have a good day when I leave. The cleaning staff for keeping the gym spotless. Thank you for just ensuring the gym is friendly and full of good people. That is evident by the young people that are creating a passion of fitness and the more âseasoned people of lifeâ still working at the passion, the dancing groups floating across the floor and making this gym a safe place for everyone. Thanks La Fitness...
