This was my first time going to Tucson Games and Gadgets. I decide to go because they have a weekly Meetup in the Free Events Meetup and to check out what games they had on sale because the store I usually frequent hasn't had anything that's caught my eye lately. When I walked in I was immediately and rudely told I HAD to spend 3 dollars on snacks. Then during one game the lady Arlene told us we needed to move tables soon and we needed to buy stuff. Then when the game was over and we were moving tables she again very rudely and forcefully told us to buy stuff. I combined what I got with a friends because he offered to pay. Then again for the 4th time as we were leaving the store she stopped me and was like you haven't spent your 3 dollars. I told her my friend paid for me and she said he only paid 4.25. Very funny she had it memorized. Then my friend again offered to pay and I said I didn't want any junk food and he also didn't want anymore junk food so he told her he'd just give her the money. Then she said okay 2 dollars. We were like ummmm here we are just given you the money and not buying anything with it and you are trying to get 25 cents more out of us!
This was the first time my friend had ever been to a gaming store or played true table top games. What an off putting experience! I have been to all the other gaming stores in Tucson and never been treated like this. It is an unspoken rule that you do buy at least something if you are going to play games there or even I've had store owners ask kindly once to please help support by buying games or food. This made it feel like we were...
Read moreThe community that plays here is cool, some of the staff not so much tho. Recently they had a policy change where they start checking receipts to make sure you pay your table fee. Are we gonna get hand stamps next? To be clear, I'm not opposed to spending money to hang out and play, I spend $100s monthly at Amazing Discoveries and Isle of Games, they don't worry about my table fee. On top of that it's not even that you have to pay for a table fee, just spend $5 on snacks or something. Or you can ask for a $5 token, save them and spend them on a big purchase. Most folks will spend their $5 during the time they're hanging out, but being hounded by managers over $5, when I show up 3 days a week as it is, feels pretty disrespectful. I like to spend when I go out but the management is so worried about $5 here that I ensure they don't get a single cent more from me.
This place doesn't hand out any of the promos that get sent by WotC, but they want our money every time. WotC doesn't keep track of who is in to play because we aren't required to sign up for commander nights. Amazing Discoveries, on the other hand, hands out promos once about 10 folks show up and sign in. There's no table fee if you sign in and most of those folks end up spending on snacks and packs anyways.
I guess I'm just venting now because I like most of people there but that red shirt manager has no customer service skills and sends the bald guy to be his little enforcer. I am not greeted by them when I walk in but about 10 minutes after sitting down they sure know I...
Read moreA single institution in a hobby about community. Since this store first opened, the owner has made it clear through his own words and actions that this store is out for just itself.
Other game stores in Tucson are very community based, and attempt to help each other store. And this is due to the nature of gaming as a hobby that thrives with more people. However, not only has this store stood alone, it is also standing by while stealing from its own group it says it serves.
A close friend had a collection of MTG cards stolen from him. He immediately let ALL stores that purchase cards of his list of stolen goods. Coincidentally, a large portion of these were sold to TGG. These are generally unique cards, and when specific set of an exact amount are received as incoming stock, that's not a coincidence. However management has stated that "You cannot prove that these cards are stolen or the same ones. " A handful....sure. But when you have multiple cards of the same name and the same condition.....rational thought seeps on.
This store is not worth you time. The individual front counter clerks may be nice, but the management is soulless and out to simply divide you from your wallets, you from your property, and you from the rest of a growing community of people. Do...
