What can I say about PF that hasn't been said 1000x before? We already know that working out hard and gains are prohibited. We already know that you will be judged for dropping free weights. We already know there are bowls of free candy at the front counter. There are some good things that should me mentioned.
The place is big, clean, and adequately cool. There are several "big ass fans" circulating the air quietly. Circulating the air. There's every cardio matching you can think of and they're never full. The gym area is 2/3 cardio equipment, which is what the average customer needs. The weight area is 3/4 machines. Very little free weights. The dumbells go up to 50 lbs. The fixes curl/straight bar set goes to 80lbs. There's also a few areas dedicated to particular workouts, like a 20 minute full body circuit and an abs area.
There are many amenities here. Large locker room and shower area. There's massage and saunas for premium members. There's also a plethora of classes and personal training to be had. And again, free candy.
It's great for the beginner and intermediate. For a proud lunkhead like myself, I just can't get over the face that there's no bench press, no squat rack, no gains. I don't need to grunt or drop and bang the weights, but a squat rack and bench press are not optional for me...a Smith machine won't cut it.
Being a gym that caters to noobs, there's not much gym etiquette here. There are 4 Smith machines and every time I need one, everybody is doing a circuit or supersetting something. EVERY TIME! I watched one guy superset incline press with lunges with alternate curls. If you're gonna hog a machine for an hour, do something effective. You can forget asking to "work in" on a machine as well. The guy looked at me like I asked him to share a bathroom stall. Also, curling in the squat rack is a sin. Curling in the Smith machine is BS. I've seen Smith machine curls more than once.
Bottom line, it's great if you're a beginner or you travel a lot (they're everywhere) or if your workout is cardio heavy. If you're a proud meathead, no. If you can bench 3 plates or squat 5,...
Read moreMy experience at this planet fitness, was that the employees/ team memeber have been helpful with problems, that doeant mean that the same team member work there. And about the shower the team member do clean them i have seem them it normally happens between 1 am and 3 am , but the shower in the male side are very heavily use by people who live in the city, truckers, and the homeless who some time sneak in, the cleanliness also falls on the gym members. I have seen shower after male gym member have use them, they have left human feces in the showers, trash, cloths that have been defecated in left on floor, pulled shower handles out of wall, shower head off the shower sprouts, pretty much male gym memeber do not care about the facilities. Even if you have the shower door close male gym member will try and come in on you and give you no courtesy like knocking on the shower door to see if anyone is in there. Also having no hot water that is from gym member leaving the hot water on for only god only know how long they have been on and also leaving multiple shower on. I have come in to hearing the water running gone out and workout for at least 2 hours come back and still the same shower has the door closed and water running, I check to see if anyone is in there by knocking a couple of time and pretty much yelling to see if any one ia in there, trust me I do not like do this for mainly I do not want to walk in on a another male buck naked trying to wash his body. Also all these problems I have seen at every planet fitness I go to. If any one want this to improve then the gym member need to CARE. I GIVE FIVE STARS BECAUSE OF THE...
Read moreNice big gym and friendly staff during my first visit. On my last visit they were cleaning floors with chemicals that were irritating (respiratory). I asked a worker if they could pause until I wrapped up on the cycle. The worker initially did; but then came back and started mopping right next to me without discussion. I said that I had asked him nicely, and he replied that the manager Scott or Scottie told him to keep mopping. What was disappointing was there was no discussion back to me (the requester) and the manager essentially set the worker up for a conflict with me. Later, the General Manager Scott, or Scottie walked up (I later realized that he had just arrived and was giving commands over the phone) and said, "we are going to start cleaning, and I told [the worker] to continue." He constantly referred to me as "dude" after I had given him my name several times. There was no customer service and no respect. The attitude was, we are going to do this, and we don't need to communicate with the customers. It was unfortunate that the initial worker was put in that position and shame on Scott/Scottie for lack of respect, customer service, and leadership. If someone would have came back and said, "could we get you to move to another area that is now dry," --no problem... simple respect and courtesy goes a long way... Not the big bad bully Mr. big time manager...
