Government Plaza — Attraction in Tuscaloosa

Beautiful plaza is a 5-acre park in the heart of downtown Tuscaloosa. There is a large lovely fountain, a central gazebo / covered stage for live music, and a sprawling green space with accessible sidewalks. There are also some benches, shady trees, and restrooms. Dog-friendly (dogs must be leashed). Heat Pizza is at this park, great spot for pizza and beer. Several art and music festivals are held here, as well as outdoor family movies and other events. For a month or two in winter, the park is transformed into a Christmas wonderland! There is a tinsel trail of Christmas trees all lit up, and even an ice skating rink....

Government Plaza park is in the heart of Tuscaloosa, Alabama while staying at the local Embassy Suires we walked the local area. We were pleasantly surprised to find that only a few blocks away was Government Plaza. There were food trucks, vendors and live music. It was a great way to spend a quite evening.

I really enjoy the grassy space in the middle of downtown. It is free to the public and the restrooms are pretty nice! Also the attached parking deck is a huge help with limited parking downtown Tuscaloosa. I only wish there were picnic tables for the elderly to sit and watch the concerts. A lot of older people can’t sit in the camping chairs (that people are encouraged to bring) because they are too low to the ground.
