Update: my original review is just below, but boy have my opinions changed. To start with, the food is no longer SO GOOD as I had previously said. At least, the last few times I went were horrible experiences. The chorizo queso that I loved so much in the beginning has been disgusting the last 3 times. FULL of grease. So much so, that one time there was literally an inch and 1/2 of red grease sitting on top of the cheese. Normally I am the kind of person to cut my losses and deal with it, but that was so disgusting I took it back. They tried to not give the money back at first, until my husband took the lid off and showed them the pool of grease. The girl gasped and said "Oh my god that's awful." It's not only that though, but the rest of my order has been sub-par. Dry meat, soggy/undercooked quesadillas, veggies not very fresh.. etc. Taco Mama went downhill big time. No longer my go-to spot unfortunately.
Original review: SO GOOD. I love the build-your-own option! Also, the Chorizo queso is LIFE. The food here is decently priced and tasty. My only complaint is they have the weakest chip game ever, but if you get past the chips breaking off in your dip, they're absolutely fire. It's become my go-to when I catch a craving...
Read moreNow granted its in the downtown area of Tuscaloosa so parking is the biggest thing to find now that is totally fine. The wife and I went to eat with a friend of mine that I've not seen in years. With the popularity of Taco Mama and the closeness to college dorms and apartments and college housing the wait time was around 30 to 45 mins and that was just on a wednesday night. Now the service/wait staff supper nice and friendly. Menus are brought out to you as you stand in line which helps you when you get to the register to order. I enjoyed a well made shrimp quesadilla and when you order your toppings they are placed in individual cups so you can either add it to your quesadilla as you eat it or before you eat it. Now being as I was super hungry I ignored my utensils and just dipped my quesadilla directly into my sauces. Now I love my wife with my whole heart, with her she chose a safety quesadilla of just chicken and cheese she gave a 3.5 out of 5. I'm not the type to take photos of my food so there is no photo because I had nothing left to show. 10 out of 10 will...
Read moreOur first time here, it was recommended to us from our friends in Birmingham. The staff was super helpful about answering questions regarding the menu and patient when we went to order. The food, however, was subpar at best. It all came out looking amazing but it didn’t taste as good as it looked. The cilantro lime rice was so bland. My husband’s chicken bowl came out cold and I flagged a lady down (she was delivering food right behind us) and I asked her if this is how it is served. She said the bowl doesn’t ever come out “hot hot” and it depends on the toppings we put on it. She said if we wanted a hotter bowl we shouldn’t have gotten the beans because “they come out colder.” We sat there for a second and I said, “well, the chicken isn’t even hot, it’s barely lukewarm.” And she said the chicken doesn’t ever come out hot. Super confusing on what to expect, she sounded like she was confused and was trying to BS. Ahi tuna tacos were good, the slaw was as bland as the rice, so just not worth the money...
