Ichiban japanese grill — Restaurant in Tuscaloosa

I searched for sushi with a 4.0 or better rating and decided to try this place for the first time since it had a great review number. We walked in and discovered we had to order our food from a kiosk (should have been the red flag to go) but decided to give it a try. The place was very small and almost dinner like vise a resturant style environment. Once we ordered and sat down, it took a while for the drinks to come (whichever were delivered by the staffs child who wasnt any older than 10, I would say). The soup and salad came out next. The salad was just lettuce (no carrot, purple cabbage or anything) and dressing. The soup was very disappointing and lacked any flavor. Then the food came out. My wife ordered the chicken teriyaki. It came with no veggies and tasted more like BBQ sauce. I will say the chicken was cooked well though. I ordered 4 sushi rolls. The "Sunday Morning roll", Rock-n-Roll and 2 "Crispy Crabs". The only roll that was even partially ok was the R-n-R roll. The other 2 had a sour taste and all 4 rolls were very loosely rolled to where they fell apart. I hate to be so negative but this place should not even be in a 2.0 or above rating. Apparently the campus kids have no real taste...

i’ve been ordering from ichiban since i moved to tuscaloosa and have ordered quite a few things, and every thing has been great!! the fancher roll is one of my favorites and the poke bowls are always delicious. spicy crab salad is also a highlight. the only thing that i have to say is i really dislike the yum yum sauce they use, it just doesn’t taste right to me but to me the hibachi doesn’t even really need it because they season it very well!! the service is always top notch and they are always so nice. completely recommend to anyone looking for good...

The crew that they had working on today (4/29/2023) around 5 pm was VERY rude to me and my boyfriend. We walked in and it was silent and the workers looked at us and turned their heads. This was our first time coming and nobody greeted us or asked if we was ready or anything as we stood at the counter. As soon as another couple comes in they got greeted, smiles and was told when they was ready to order they was ready to take their orders.
