I have been a customer of your Villa Park location for a few years now and I have always had a pleasant experience with the staff and I’ve always been quoted a fair price for everything I’ve sold or pawned. But today crossed a line. So much so that I will never be a patron of any of your locations ever again and I will put forth an effort to make sure people know what HORRIBLE customer service and just straight up CONFUSION I experienced with “your employee” Juan.
I came in today at 5:30 and already I could tell Juan wasn’t feeling it. I felt bad coming in so close to close but I’m in the service industry too and I always take care of my customers, even if they show up a minute before close. I was there with 30 minutes to spare anyway so I didn’t think it was that big of a deal. I was selling an item worth over $1500 and looking for $700. It seemed like a no-brainer to me! Juan made a phone call, went into the back room, came up front, then offered me $500. I understand that you’re supposed to bargain with your customers but not straight up insult their intelligence with such a low price. He even showed me what I brought in SOLD ON EBAY FOR $1500! But it gets better…
During our interaction, Juan kept asking me over and over again why I don’t just sell the item myself! I told him I didn’t know how to do that and I’m more comfortable coming into S&K Villa Park because I’ve always had a fair experience. Plus… I was literally standing in your shop so how does that make any sense???
But no, he kept persisting! Like he just wanted me out of the store! He said I could try Facebook, I told him I don’t have Facebook. Then he told me about some app I could download so I could sell the item myself and make even more money??? I’m so sorry but I thought this guy was a Sterling & Knight Villa Park employee, not a Facebook or Craigslist or App Store employee. Shoot, they should cut him a check since he promoted their business to me about a dozen times and was so eager for me to leave.
After I turned down his less than helpful suggestions, he then decided he was done taking care of me. He told me it was 6:00 now so I could come back tomorrow at 10. I was just so confused??? He was literally helping me from the moment I came in at 5:30 and then at 5 mins to 6:00 he told me the process is taking too long and he has somewhere to be. I just stood there so perplexed! I told him I came in with ample time to be serviced and asked if it was customary to just stop halfway into taking care of your customers.I literally thought I was being pranked! When I realized Juan is just TERRIBLE at customer service—so much so that he was willing to take business away from YOUR COMPANY and give it literally ANYONE ELSE— I just took my item back, thanked him for his time and left.
I went to Addison Pawn and wound up getting $750 after I told the owner about my experience! THAT is customer service! THAT is how your patrons should be treated. They made me feel welcome and I will definitely be back! I just need to ask: Who do you have working for you??? Normally everyone there is so sweet and helpful, but bet your bottom dollar if Juan was my employee he’d be gone so fast. Your employees should never compromise your business so flagrantly!
Juan, if you ever read this, I get it. Sometimes the service industry can be overwhelming. Sometimes it makes us cynical and jaded. I totally understand. But if you can’t take those feelings and leave them at home when you’re at work IN THE SERVICE INDUSTRY then you need to find yourself another gig my man! Maybe something remote so you don’t have to deal with people anymore based on how absolutely misanthropic you come off.
Taking my business to Addison Pawn up the street now and in the future. I won’t allow myself—or anyone I know for that matter—be subject to such a miscarriage of professionalism! I’m still so confused and frustrated by the way...
Read moreHonestly, when you think of a pawn shop, you think of some scuzzy people trying to take advantage of people in need. But that is quite the opposite of what this place is. Everybody here is extremely friendly, they talk to you like they're your friends, and they are willing to negotiate. I can't stress it enough how extremely nice these people are. And they have a bunch of cool stuff for sale. Definitely a place to stop in and look around. Five out of five stars, 10 out of 10, two thumbs up!
Just wanted to give a little update. I'm only allowed by the Google gods to leave one review unfortunately. So I'd just like to state again how incredibly wonderful and personable the people that work here are. They genuinely seem to enjoy what they do for a living and it comes across via their customer service and showroom presentation. Everything is nicely organized and everyone is approachable and knowledgeable. If you're looking for a painless, easy going experience at a pawn shop, look no further! These men and women won't do you wrong! A+ people, prices,...
