We had been curious about the ynot italian here. We always see it packed with cars. Last night we took the plunge and had dinner there. First impressions are lasting impressions. The hostess station was empty, the wait staff huddled around the drink machine, looking at us like we had landed from mars while we waited to be seated. Finally one of them walked up to us chewing and talking some gibberish and finally asked my wife for her name. Bad beginning. The hostess and the waits then congregated around the hostess station, where we were treated to the gossip the hostess had on other staff members.
When we were finally seated, which took forever, not because of occupancy, but because of poor front end management, it took forever for our waitress to get to us. It took forever to get our app and salads. It took forever to get the food.
Lets talk about the food. The salad was obviously pre-made and stacked on top of each other, the lettuce was flat and the dressing in a plastic ramekin was bland. Our app was the calamari. This was bland at best. The marinara sauce seemed watery and tasteless. We both had chicken parmigiana. My wife with spaghetti, and i with tortellini. My order seemed to confuse the waitress who came back three times to tell me the pasta I wanted was not available with that dish. Tortellini was my last choice. The parmigiana as well was bland. The serving size was awesome though, they don't skimp on quantity. They do on quality. My pasta was cold, the marinara again was watery, overly sweet and lacking spices. Kind of like stewed tomatoes.
We had high hopes for this restaurant and we disappointed all the way around. Some advice to the cooks. Try adding a little garlic and oregano to your sauce and breading. Whoever is expediting needs to ensure food isn't dying in the window. My dish was half cold, a telltale sign. I give you two stars because its a nice building. Staff is bad there, service is bad and the food mediocre. Sorry guys. Oh and by the way, your manager shouldn't be touching the guests. It isn't acceptable in the...
ย ย ย Read moreOur family used to love Ynot for its food and its atmosphere. After today, we will not be returning, at least not to this location, for quite awhile. While our server was friendly and was attentive overall, the food was beyond disappointing. My husband ordered the Tuscan beef, which he has enjoyed in the past. Today it sat in a puddle of water under soggy noodles. It looked (and my sample tasted) like a TV dinner. To be fair to Ynot, he didn't complain to the server, just didn't want to be bothered. I tried the beef mushroom ravioli, a special they have right now, and could barely eat it for the overwhelming saltiness, especially of the sauce and onions. I also didn't complain until after I'd eaten the ravioli portion and the server asked how things were. At that point, the manager(?) came out to give her explanation for the saltiness, but didn't offer to compensate at all, I assume since I'd eaten most of the portion, which is certainly fair but not what I'd have done in her place from a business standpoint. Our daughters ordered the margarita pizza, and though our older daughter ate a good part, it had almost no cheese which was disappointing to our younger child. I think the reason we didn't complain earlier and more was that it wasn't just one thing but multiple problems, and how do you complain about an entire meal without seeming like an opportunist. Our bill came to over $70 before tip, but honestly, if it had been half that, I still would have begrudged the money. While the atmosphere is lovely (pleasant music, football for the husband, comfortable seating, etc), the current quality of the food is on par with fast food Italian. Very disappointed and won't...
ย ย ย Read moreYnot Italian has been a staple in the Hampton Roads area. From selling tickets to having great food, you know Ynot!
This location is located in the Landstown Commons area on the same side of IHOP. It's a stand alone store so can't miss it! The smell of Italian will help draw you in if you're just shopping.. or like me. . running on Princess Anne!
I was craving pizza and I haven't had YNot since I was in undergrad so I was like .. why .. not. slaps knee
We ended up getting sat in the back near the patio. Yes, they have a patio area. The booths were very comfortable. Our waitress was nice also. When it was time to order, I ended up getting a white pizza with spinach, tomato, and sausage. My mom ordered broccoli and cheese soup to start her off then egg plant parm. It was really good. I took a bite and did .. cherish her left overs. My dad ended up getting a meat ball sub with fries. The fries were on point. The table also got bread to share.
The restrooms were clean. They're located near the front door. What was cool about their restrooms was that they had mouth wash. This could be for two reasons. 1) who wants garlic breath after all that Italian food? 2) if the wait staff smoke, having cigg breath is not .. it.
YNot offers a lot from starters, main course meals, but their dessert is where it's at. I remember in college, we used to go to YNot for pizza and we HAD to get gelato. This time my family opted for the tiramisu. It was good however, the texture was different because of how it was made.
I do look forward on coming back to...
