This one is hard for me to write. After 16 years (aprox 1x a month) sharing anniversaries, birthdays, date night, and just because dinners, we drive to THIS hibachi restaurant for the last time. Yep one time of a bad experience did it for me. It was that bad. Party of 8 arriving and ready to be sat, one person trying to get there but maybe 10 minutes out, they would have taken the other large party ahead of us and we had 2,4 year olds and a 10 month old that waiting another 40 minutes to be seated could have been a nightmare. So I asked the guy that Sat us(owner), can our person still join us if she is arriving a few minutes late...he started picking up our menus and said if everyone is not here, get up and wait. I said that's not what I asked you...he responded with his eyes closed tight, "I dont understand, are you all here or no?" I said yes because we told her she couldn't be seated ...he started putting the menus down again. I said wow I'm really shocked by your frustration, and how your handling my question. I've never had this experience after 16 years. He said "if your happy stay, if your not, go. I dont care" and walked away. Mind you we had an entire table to ourselves with now 2 open seats. We did stay our food was good, our server was great. I did order a vegetable kids hibachi for my 4 yo grandaughter and the owners wife stopped the server in the hallway to say, we cant do that. (My other daughter was in the hallway with her daughter when the encounter took place). Not a problem, we made it chicken hibachi and gave the chicken to someone else. After our chef left the owners wife again came over and asked each one of us if our service and food was ok. She had not gone to any other table in that restaurant. I think they thought maybe we would complain to not have to pay. Yeah we don't roll like that! Our party of 8 spent a lot of money there last night and over the past 16 years. I live in another city with hibachi directly across the street from my neighborhood. I chose super ninja time and time again. I have always given word of mouth and introduced many of family when visiting to this establishment. Simply because he said he dont care... tells me that he really doesnt care if he loses a customer or not. When we started going there 16 years ago, they were never busy, even in the course of the past 3 years , not very busy. But recently much more busy and maybe that puts stress on him, when a customer actually asks him to assist with question or adjustment. Thank you for showing me you dont care... I'll take my celebrations elsewhere for the remainder of my life. The old saying when someone shows you who they are,...
Read morePosting or a friend. So Last Night we went to Super Ninja in Landstown Commons We ordered our drinks and while pouring Sake into a cup, a German Cockroach came out from the sake bottle into the sake cup. At first we kept it quite and between us... We showed it to the waiter who shown no apologetic interest what so ever. Something told me to take a picture before letting him take it away. I then watched the waiter go dump it in the sink and rinse sake cup, Not going to the manager as he stated he would. So I (still quietly) got up and asked for the manager and spoke to manager away from everyone very respectfully. I showed the picture to the manager, she then had the waiter come over and they spoke privately in their own language. The manager came back and told me that the sake comes in in bulk boxes and nothing they can control. I advised the Manager that German Cockroaches carry nasty bacteria and diseases that can be spread. The Manager stated she would get us another Sake but would need to still pay for it. I advised Manager that the 18 of us would take our dinner elsewhere, the manager replied they have records of pest control company treating restaurant so they dont care and we would need to pay for the drinks before we left that we ordered.
Now at this point I went back to our party and addressed them as a group to what just happened. The reaction was not pleasant as many females were present. During this time 2 more tables heard it all, asked us what happened and after we told them they got up and left, which were about 15 other guest.
We all got up and went to the front, We all respectfully paid our Bill's for the drinks we ordered and left on the table. The Manager had zero sympathy towards what occurred in her restaurant, still telling everyone they have documentation and the restaurant being treated every 4 weeks and we all needed to pay for drinks ordered before leaving
We all went to Sumo's, where Sumos hands down has always been one of my favorites. They greeted us with kindness and made sure Jay's Bday was priority and still as special.
Anyone reading this, take as you may from it. I just thought it should be spoken upon. I understand Restaurants can only control so much when dealing with insects and bugs, however we ALL felt this was handled very poorly and for this WE will never return to Super Ninja in Landstown Commons in...
Read moreI spent 4.5 years in Japan. I LOVE Sushi, and many kinds of eastern cuisine, and KNOW what fresh is. This restaurant was the WORST "sushi" place I have ever eaten at, and I have been to most in Va Beach. You order off of a menu, but can continue to order as much as you care to for a set price. There was a caveat stated, that if you left enough food on your plate you would be charged extra. We paid $16.95 per person. (not what I would call a "buffet" style offering.) The several pieces of sushi I ordered were almost inedible. Definitely NOT fresh. All tasted like they were days old and had been kept in a refrigerator. Even the rice was not fresh, and I know how to make good sushi rice at home. The "conch" was so old and thin it was like shoe leather, and inedible. The maguro (red-belly tuna) was pale red, from being refrigerated quite a while. The "shumai" came in just four pieces, and tasted like stale, store-bought and re-steamed.. maybe even like gas-station sushi. I tried the "Thai Red Curry Chicken'... it came on a plate, not in a bowl. There was more of the inedible rice on the side. There was no curry, just a thin sauce over some sliced vegetables and some meager chicken pieces. It wasn't even hot. My family ordered several other dishes and all were of poor quality except one. My son said the Pad Thai was good. Of course, we had ordered it first, the waitress forgot it, and had to re-order it after the owner inquired about our meal. So ONE of our dishes was fresh and hot. The service was poor, the young girl did not speak English well, and we had to point to what we wanted off the menu, and she still got it wrong. She only came to the table twice, and never returned. We had to ask another to order more food. Several times other waiters and waitresses brought food to our table that we had not ordered, and was to be delivered to another patron. To be somewhat fair, the other half of the restaurant is a "hibachi-style where they cook the food in front of you. We have not eaten there, so I don't have an opinion, but I don't think I will give this place a second chance. Needless to say, we will never be back to this most horrible eatery. I would give it ZERO stars if that...
