This city park is one of the best I've ever been to. They have a massive number of jungle gym playsets for a variety of ages, all set in a nicely wooded space. There are plenty of park benches for picnicking, with trash cans available (each has a stretch hook that helps keep out raccoons, etc). On week days, there is a small train that runs through the park, which guests can ride on for free. The museum on site is only open until 4 pm, however, so visit early.
This time of year, the tulips are in full bloom and everything is green, but not too hot. This year, the adjacent city pool is also being remodeled/upgraded, so you will see a lot of construction materials fenced off along one side of the park. There's many delicious places to grab something filling and enjoy a gorgeous day relaxing and watching the kids, all within walking distance..
