The best thing: It's architecture. Very Athenian. Very columnar. Second best thing: It's great location. It's on the National Mall. Right on a major avenue. Third best thing: Great museums all around. Fourth best thing: GREAT interiors. Go there for any event that interests you and they have plenty going for you. Google 'em! Fifth best thing: A lot of nice, limestone government buildings all around. DC is about government. It may be worth your while to check out some of the major govt buildings here. Architecture is great - yes. But also, these departments/agencies run the world - Literally!

For folks planning a big wedding celebration, finding a venue in downtown DC that can accommodate a huge guest list can be a challenge. Getting one that also makes your wedding look and feel like a swanky gala event is even harder. The Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium, though, offers couples enough space for up to 1000 invitees in the main ballroom. That space is designed to impress visitors, with its soaring, 60-foot columns, beautiful hardwood floors and theater-style balcony overlooking the rest of the room. You won't find another venue this awe-inspiring anywhere in the DC metro area!

As a wedding planner, we LOVE this venue and loved the opportunity to design a wedding here! The venue does have a number of rules and restrictions as a historic building, but it is all worth it to preserve this space. We worked on a wedding which was the same day as the opening of the museum of African American history, and the venue allowed us to drop items off a day in advance due to road closures and ran the AC overnight to preserve the florals! That's definitely the definition of going above and beyond and we can't wait to come back here!
