After adventuring all through DC and checking out the monuments this had to be one of the coolest spots! The Old Post office is now intertwined with the Trump International Hotel.
Key Notes: To enter the museum: looking at the front of the hotel the museums entrance is on the right side past the hotels side entrance on 12th ST NW, next to the Starbucks. You will need to go through the black metal gate to get into the museum right next to the hotels sign. Once you enter you will walk down a short hallway for the self guided tour. There is a security guard who checks bags before entering. It's free to get in since it's part of the National Parks. The stamp for this park is not located at this location. I believe it's at the Washington Monument store under the name of Pennsylvania Ave. You can also ask the rangers where to find it. After passing the guard there is a small Trump gift shop to your left and to the right is where you enter for the tour. The tour is one hallway with lots of pictures and readings about the old Post office. Once you finish reading you take an elevator up to the tower, this is a must! The elevator is all glass, you can see inside the hotel itself. Within the tower you can see so many monuments, it's like the second greatest place to see this view them since the Washington Monument is out of order for now. There are plaques that tell you where the monuments are from where you're standing. Word of causing, it's SUPER windy up here so make sure to take a jacket if you get cold easily. There are National Park Rangers to answer any questions...
Read moreThe Old Post Office Museum was purchased by Donald Trump, as part of a bid to use and revitalize the historic building.
This review is used to rate only the visit to the bell tower view.
The view at the top was nice and boast a 360 view of many DC attractions. The view is obstructed partially by wire shielding over the opening at the top. One side has plexiglass which is marred with stress points and scratches inhibiting the view.
This is not a great place to grab pictures but the view is pretty nice. (I partially stuck my phone through the wires for some camera shots)
Be prepared to walk through a few hallways and use 2 different elevators to get to the top. The hall ways have some interesting historical facts that visitors can read. Staff is 'very' enthusiastic and will talk to you about anything.
My favorite part was checking out the architectural features of the building. The bar and open area at the bottom would be a great place to meet a date.
Overall, I rate this 3 stars when comparing the amenities and convenience of visiting to other historical...
Read moreWho knew this existed? By going in an unmarked entrance in the back of the Waldorf Astoria hotel, you are greeted by 2 guards sitting at a metal table who ask you if you are here for the museum. Not sure why this is so covert feeling. When you say yes, they point you to double doors which open a long hall with posters about the history of the Old Post Office and DC as a city. You proceed to go up one elevator which gives you a nice view of the fancy/ spacious hotel interior lobby area. Then one more lobby up to the top of the lookout which has incredible views of all over DC (Capitol, Monument, even planes landing at Reagan). I was there on a late August weekend and the time from downstairs to lookout was about 20 minutes waiting for the elevators. Some of the views up top are covered by plexiglass and others are covered by thin metal wires so you get some fresh air. This is the 3rd highest point in DC (after the Monument and church). It is FREE, the staff is great, and the views are worth a...
