I grew up near Bresemann Forest, just a couple blocks from this wonderful location. My younger brother and I spent most of our time playing and exploring these woods. I'm glad to say that the county has taken great care preserving this forest. In fact, many years ago there was a furniture factory located next to the pond. The pond is formed by the dam at the north end of the pond. The reason there is a dam was to power the furniture factory. Most recently there was a bypass Salmon ladder added because the dam prevented salmon from spawning further up Spanaway creek and beyond Spanaway Lake. I would assume that in the fall you could observe the salmon utilizing the ladder. I haven't returned to see if the salmon had yet returned. The entire forest has been fenced to protect and preserve it's history. There are several gates on the north end of the forest at the end of Yakima Avenue South, 8th Ave Court South, 10th Avenue South and Duryea Lane South. On the south end of the forest there is an entrance across the street from the entrance of Spanaway Park and then the main entrance is at the west end of Sprinker Parking lot next to Spiral Rock. These gates are closed at dusk so leave yourself plenty of time...
Read moreWhat a lovely trail so close to home. my daughter and I set out yesterday to explore new places and get out of the house. Not wanting to go far from home I was happy to find this spot. I was so surprised by the variety of things we saw while there. We waded in the Stream and saw freshwater clams and snails. At another location near the fish damn there were beautiful lily pads with flowers, dragonflies and pees pollinating flowers, Blackberry bushes and cherry trees. We ate some cherries they were tart but tasty. We took some of the primitive routes which are just a little more narrow and rocky- I would highly suggest taking the primitive trail to the heron overlook- it’s very pretty back there. The trails were nicely paved and wide. Such a beautiful variety of plants and flowers! The birds chirped and even though I could see houses just beyond the fence it felt like a little slice of heaven. Great for kids, pets,...
Read moreAs far as short, near hikes go, this one is great. If you grew up in this area, you know that is saying a lot. This used to be the place NOT to go.
They have done quite a bit of work on updating the trails, as well as fixing some of the signs. You can tell they are planning to do more work in here as well.
Honestly, it is a great walking trail, running trail, dog walking trail, kid walking trail, et cetera. It is not very long, but given the fact that it is a circuit, it wouldn't be that difficult to make it a long but easy hike.
As far as terrain, it is fairly flat. I know for a fact that you could take a stroller back here, at least a running stroller anyway, because I've done it more than once with friends and their children.
It is in the same parking lot as Sprinker Recreation Center and Sprinkler Park. This gives you the option, of course, of any of the amenities offered there as well.
It's a great way to...
