Hello, Costco and Costco shoppers. Up front, I attempted to address via email and directly with the Costco location regarding the issue I experienced, but the store website does not appear to be functioning, and there does appear to be a way to email Costco through the Costco website. As such, this is it.
On Friday, 8.29.2025, I shopped at the Market Street location in Washington, DC. The checkout cashier (Nicole S.) did not greet me in any manner, and she didn't bother to thank me for my patronage at the conclusion of the transaction. She apparently couldn't be bothered even to look at me... because she did not. While I was exiting the store, the exit greeter (I missed his name.) also could not be bothered to greet me, wish me a good day, or even look at me. With both of these employees, I parted company with a polite, "Have a good day." Not a word or any manner of acknowledgement from either in reply.
Since I began patronizing Costco in 2008, I have had next to no negative experiences with Costco in any way. Customer service has generally been quite good, and frankly, were I writing a review of the history of my experiences with Costco, my rating would be five stars. I am writing this review based on my experience at the Market Street location on 8.29.2025. Sadly, though, the one experience is not unlike the general service at this particular location. I have noticed a decline in the quality of service at this location over the course of several months -- maybe for about two years. There is a gruff, unfriendly quality about customer service (primarily, and possibly solely, with checkout cashiers and exit greeters) at the Market Street location.
Bottom line? When Costco employees cannot see fit to facilitate positive interactions with its patrons, they communicate to us that we are not valued... and that is a problem. My most recent experience and the general customer service issues I have observed at this particular location will not cause me to ditch Costco as a retail outlet; I am far too invested in Costco in myriad ways to part company with Costco. However, I will likely cease patronizing the Market Street location unless absolutely necessary.
Really? A checker can't greet or thank me or even look at me? Then the exit greeter can't greet or thank me or even look at me? Does Costco think this manner of customer service facilitates positive customer experiences that encourage them to want to spend money on Costco products and services? Answer: ...
Read moreOn December 14, 2024, I had an unacceptable interaction with the staff and management at Costco. I visited this location to purchase some items, including a few bottles of liquor. I stood in line for 10-15 minutes because the cashier had no assistance, and the line was moving incredibly slowly.
When I attempted to complete my purchase, the cashier asked for my ID. I presented my ID via Google Wallet, which is approved by TSA and many states across the U.S. However, I was informed that he needed a supervisor’s assistance to proceed. I also showed my driver's license on my phone, but that was deemed unacceptable as well. When the supervisor finally arrived, he claimed that I had not used the app correctly, despite its clear instructions to “hold to the reader.” When I requested to see the reader, he was dismissive and, quite unprofessionally, asked me, “Do you understand English?” He also mentioned that he “has a line” to attend to.
It seemed that this individual had some visual challenges, as he struggled to follow the app’s directions and failed to recognize the length of the line, which had been growing for at least the previous fifteen to twenty minutes during our interaction. I managed to keep my composure despite the rude and unprofessional customer service I received from “Latif.” I then asked to speak with the store manager. “Steve” overheard my request and began to provide an essential response related to the ABC law of Washington, D.C. I am currently awaiting a response to my formal complaint with Costco.

Purchased the Agio Park Falls 7-piece Fire High Dining Set for like $1500.00 on July 30 2021...Costco had a emergency with smoke in the store evacuated about 730 PM closed before I could pick my purchase up. No problem I returned July 1st 2021 1030amish approached a Costco associate named Carma African American female with colorful new balance sneakers on and said, "Excuse me where do I go to pick up my purchase? " as I gave her the receipt she stated. "GOOD MORNING TO YOU TOO"! as she took my receipt and rolled her eyes. I was somewhat dumbfounded because I'm not required to say good morning clearly I didn't understand what was going so wrong during her shift that early and the store had just opened. There is no reason to have individuals like this representing Costco it's actually embarrassing. I have no problem spending 1500 dollars or more however I will NEVER allow someone to treat me as if they are doing me a favor by helping me in a business they are paid to help. I have already contacted corporate in reference to this matter. This individual clearly doesn't understand the members and what they spend plays a significant role in her salary. If you are not qualified for the job Carma place the clipboard down and give Costco your official resignation and do them a favor. You do not reflect this company at all based on your actions. Overall this is the first time I experienced this and I've been a executive member for years however whether buying a $2 slice of pizza or a $1500 table I'm never going to allow any associate to BE RUDE AND IGNOR IT...Carma..you picked the wrong one! Ask Dee Fair Common Sense...
