The access from Arlington to downtown D.C. is fantastic. The girders, joists, etc. are ingeniously and practically laid out. The views of the Kennedy Center and Roosevelt Island are breathtaking, but no so much so as you lose control of your car. That would not be safe.
Merging onto the bridge from or off of the bridge onto G.W. Parkway is a fun experience - you get to go under the bridge a bit and close to the water - what fun!

Read moreI really hate this bridge. I bike across it about 180 times a year and I find the pedestrian space on the north side of the bridge dangerous. Bikes and pedestrians have trouble passing each other on the span. Most beginners need to stop and the span is dangerous with crosswinds. That being said, stay on the westbound or Northside.
