Not For Smaller Children!!!! The Falls are BEAUTIFUL!!!! And that bridge that goes right across the whole falls looks Amazing. However, I took my toddler and 5 month old based on these reviews... that were saying what a great place for kids this was... one even saying 'trail is a "bit rough for a stroller" but with a baby carrier it would be great!' Ummmm... I went up with Baby in carrier... toddler next to dad... thank God I didnt try and take them on my own!!!! The trail the whole way up to the bridge is right on the edge of the mountain with these thin wide spaced cables as the only barrier between you and a usually at least 50 ft fall. The worst part was right where the trail got the most narrow... IT WAS ICED OVER. Not even enough room to walk two by two and EXTREMELY SLIPPERY!!!! The bridge is also barred by very WIDE SPACED POSTS my toddler could have very easily slipped through. The bridge was where I drew the line and made my family turn back. The trail supposedly got much more icey and narrow ahead. A few days after we went there was actually a story about a small child that fell off the trail!!!! The worst part is the forest service responded by simply saying, family is should come prepared and wear proper footwear when visiting the falls this time of the year. I THOUGHT I did my due diligence by reading THESE POSTS... wherein I only found Raving Reviews about what a Great place it was to take small children "ANY TIME OF THE YEAR". My Advice: Keep your little ones away at least in the winter. IT IS NO PLACE FOR SMALL CHILDREN IN WINER...
Read moreI plugged this place in the GPS. The thing that sucks is if the parking lot is closed you have to drive miles down the road before you can even make a u-turn. For some reason you're able to enter one way but not the other. As you make your u-turn they make it seem like the waterfall is closed when in actuality it's not. It wasn't till we drove back after making are you turn that we realize we can still pull into the parking lot it's just that you have to wait a long time to get any parking. The parking situation made it pretty frustrating.
The waterfall itself is nice and I like how they have the bridge set up. We got many good pictures. We drove from downtown Portland and it didn't take long to get there. The u-turn we made added on another 10 minutes. Stop by if you're in the area, cool waterfall to...
Read moreVery steep trail with 11 switchbacks to the top of Multonomah Falls viewpoint. There are no guard rails and if you fall, you will get injured. Boots recommended. Very muddy after it rains. Once you reach the top viewpoint, keep going on this trail along Multonomah Creek to see 6 waterfalls in 1 mile. Once you reach Ecola Falls, turn around and hike back. I like this hike because as you ascend, the crowds get thinner and thinner. Not many people know about the 6 waterfalls that feed Multonomah Falls. The entire trail has sketchy drop offs so be careful before worrying about your phone! About 1000 feet elevation gain total in 3...
