I was disappointed with my recent experiences at the Wayzata Public Library. As a public space, I expected it to be inclusive and neutral, but I noticed a biased agenda. In the children's featured section, there were books on the birth of Jesus in the folk and fairytale section, no other religious books were included in this section (which no religions should be). I approached the front desk to express my confusion and was directed to speak with the manager. I questioned why these books were placed in the fairytale section and mentioned that it felt like the library was against Christianity. I emphasized that I would also be concerned if other religions were in that section. As a public space you should be accepting of all people and religions. The manager responded by saying that some people don't believe in the birth of Jesus, which surprised me. I didn't realize this was a topic up for debate, as Jesus' birth is widely acknowledged in history and various religions. It is worth noting that the library is located in an area with multiple churches nearby. I believe it is important for the employees at the Wayzata Public Library to respect and include all faiths and religions. Very disappointing experience and very uneducated manager. What year is...
Read moreWe love Hennepin County’s libraries, and Wayzata is no exception! I’ve been to the Wayzata branch a few times now with my kids, ages 2.5yo and 5yo, and they’ve been delighted by the children’s area. There were enough toys to keep them busy for quite a while, and the children’s books are displayed and arranged in such a way that made perusal easy, especially for littles. There weren’t as many books as, say, the Plymouth branch, but the variety was different from what we’re used to and made for a welcome change.
And as a parent, I loved that the library was quieter than some others (yes, even in the children’s area) and seemed to be less frequented than what we’re used to. (Peace and quiet can be hard to come by!) The librarians were friendly and gracious - and the big windows made the place sunny and inviting, even in the dead of winter....
Read moreThis is by far one of the best libraries in the Hennepin County branch of libraries. It was so much easier to enjoy when Wayzata was more of a small town, but is still just as fun, beautiful, and well taken care of as before. I love the little flower/pollinator garden in the back. The hill has a great view of the lake, and the stars can be really visible at night. The process of being able to turn books in at any of the Hennepin County facilities is really neat. Overall, this library is an amazing place and if you are considering going there I think you...
