Nestled in the scenic heart of Indiana, French Lick Winery shines as a beacon for both wine enthusiasts and history buffs alike. This quaint establishment, with its focus on Indiana-grown varietals and bottled-in-bond spirits, offers a delightful fusion of local viticulture and a rich musical legacy.
Upon entry, one is greeted by the charming aesthetic of wine bottles adorned with music note-shaped grapes on their labels—a heartfelt homage to the building's past life as the Kimball Piano factory. This historical connection is not merely symbolic; it's brought to life by a beautifully preserved piano that graces the corner of the room. The owner's generosity in allowing my companion to play it added a personal and interactive touch to our visit, enhancing the winery's warm and inviting atmosphere.
The occasion of our visit was the much-anticipated eclipse, and what better way to complement such a celestial event than with the winery's delicious wine slushies. A word to the wise: if you're planning on a tasting session, it might be best to hold off on the slushy beforehand, as it can quickly turn to a watery shadow of its former self.
The tasting experience itself is a remarkable value, with the entire lineup of wines on offer for a mere $6. For those with a preference for spirits, individual tastings are available at a modest cost, allowing one to navigate through the various flavors to discover personal favorites to cherish and take home.
A standout recommendation is the Cranberry Wine, artfully mixed with the winery's own White Whiskey—a suggestion from our knowledgeable bartender that did not disappoint. This concoction is a testament to the thoughtful blending of flavors that French Lick Winery masters so well.
Despite the bustling crowd drawn by the eclipse, the service remained friendly and prompt, a testament to the staff's commitment to ensuring a memorable experience for each guest.
French Lick Winery is a must-visit spot for anyone in the area, whether you're there for a heavenly event or simply in pursuit of earthly delights. The combination of delectable drinks, hospitable service, and a touch of historical charm makes for an outing that is as enriching as it...
Read moreI’ve been to dozens of wineries all over the US and Canada, but this is the first time I’ve ever been told that I have to wait an hour for wine tasting. There are 6-8 “stations” at the bar serving multiple people each and as many staff serving them, they should be able to serve 100 people an hour with that set up, if tastings last 10-15 minutes. There were maybe 20-30 customers that I could see, and empty stations at the bar. There are MUCH better ways to serve customers quickly even during holidays, than to turn them away because you can’t handle customer flow.
There is also no signage or greeters at the door to explain that we needed to stop and put our name on a list at the cash register. We walked right in and walked up to an empty space at the bar. Then we were told we had to check in with the hostess, ok, we weren’t there to eat though. We did as told and waited at the host stand only to be told we were in the wrong line. Next, we get in a line at a register behind people purchasing bottles from the shop to finally be told that we couldn’t get anything without waiting an hour. Very disappointing visit, would not go back or recommend it.
The lady at the register recommended coming back at 11am if we wanted to be served without a ridiculous wait. That would be great if I wanted to drink with...
Read moreIf you are a younger couple celebrating your 3 year wedding anniversary, don't even waste your time.. We have never been wine tasting or anything of the sort, and I am unsure if I ever want to try this again.
The heavy set lady behind the bar was rude and made us feel like we was less than and like she was rushing us out of there. There was another couple at the bar there also,, she was a lot nicer to them, they was older and from Texas, she chatted them up really nice and cracked jokes with them while we are just there standing there waiting for her to "get with us". We got one sip to their 2.. she spilled through the tasting so fast, I can't even remember one of the bottles stories.. I don't know if all wine tasting places are like this but I would not recommend this one to a single soul. We drove an hour and a half to be treated like poor kids.. ive never even been to French Lick before, and this was a horrible experience! For the record, we did buy 2 bottles and some fudge and still tipped (5$),, only because we was raised right and also because we came all that way and I didn't want her to ruin my whole anniversary.. my advice is to not have her be the face of your business. She obviously does not belong on the front line. 10/10 DO...
