I found the physical space of Uptown! theater a big disappointment. Here's the problem: the rows on the floor of the theater are not on any incline and the stage isn't very high. The result is that you cannot see the stage fully no matter who sits in front of you. I went to see a dance performance there recently and missed about 24%-30% of the performance. You couldn't see the dancers from the thigh down. For a dance performance with a lot of ground work and people using their feet, that's a big miss. The audience doesn't see the show the way the artist intended. There are seats in the back of the theater that are raised up so I'm assuming those are better. The problem is, there is no explanation on their website, so I picked out what I thought were great orchestra seats and got obstructed views. Additionally, the theater has a very wide center entrance that is empty space and which could have been used for more optimal raised seating. Honestly, I just don't understand the design philosophy of the space. Pretty much every school auditorium I've ever been in has better seating design. I gave it two stars because the performers were good. If you're going to listen to a music performance and you don't need to see anything, it would be okay. But if you go to see a dance or play there be prepared to not see 25%-30% of the show if you are seated...
Read moreWent to Uptown! Knauer Performance Center to see their production of 'Footloose'. It was very well done. The performers were engaging, and the audience enthusiastic. The lead actors for Ren McCormick (Colin Mash) and Ariel Moore (Elizabeth Mercier) were wonderful in their parts, and will go far. Their duet of 'Almost Paradise ' was fantastic, their voices are well matched. Abby Fields, who played Ariel's mother Vi Moore, is very talented with a strong, clear voice. Her performance of 'Can You Find It In Your Heart ' was very moving. The duet of Vi Moore and Ren's mother, Ethel McCormick (Tara Herweg) hit home with many in the audience.
Looking forward to more productions, and performers at the Uptown! . So happy to support this...
