Downtown West Chester PA — Attraction in West Chester

Apparently there is no true visitor center in West Chester, the heart & seat of Chester county. I find this odd, since you're directed to drive 25 minutes south to the "main" visitor center inside the entrance to Longwood Gardens, the most visited attraction in the area. The only visitor services available in West Chester is the Chamber & Convention Bureau, with very few brochures & maps available for the wider county, and the Historical Society. Why would smaller businesses in town become a Chamber member if their only spot to display brochures is 20 miles south and inside the entrance to the largest attraction. What if Longwood isn't of interest to visitors or you've visited it before. I feel tourists shouldn't have to drive all the way down there just to find out info on additional attractions, b&bs, museums, parks, & maps. When I arrived, the place was empty and I think I woke up an older volunteer from their mid-morning nap. Seems the county is overdue for a TRUE welcome center within the borough. It seems it would be better served for both visitors and member businesses alike. Just my 2 cents, beautiful county. Why is there no longer a full county wall map in print? Would really help planning driving tours, bike rides, hikes, trailheads, preserves, etc without having to go...
