This little gem of a market is AMAZING. I love buying their sashimi-grade seafood to make myself a platter at home. They also have great finds that I can't get in person anywhere else in CT.
They have a ramen bar there preparing fresh soup from Wednesday-Sunday as well as serving fresh brewed and dripped coffee alongside bubble tea. In the mornings, they prepare fresh bento (lunch sets) whose ingredients vary from day to day but are always delicious. It definitely has the homey feel of a family-owned specialty foods shop with a very pleasant staff.
I love going there to grocery shop or even to grab a quick, simple lunch; it's not a restaurant by any means, but its grab-and-go options are KILLER! Please be aware that some items are imported or are hard-to-find in CT (i.e. fresh sashimi) so this is a bit on the pricier side and may not be practical for weekly food shopping for things that you can otherwise get at Stop and Shop or the Whole Foods that is literally right across the...
Read moreDecent Japanese market. It is small but has a lot of stuff. I do feel it is marketed towards people who like Japanese culture instead of food because there is not a ton of variety vegetables wise. Aisles of snack food, stationary/anime goods, fresh foods(including sushi and fresh fish), Japanese drinks and bakery items. Prices are higher than other Asian grocery stores I’ve been to. Aisle ways are very small and it felt super crowded inside. I did try out a rice bowl and tonkatsu ramen. Both were subpar, I felt like I could make better at home. Ramen broth was way too salty. You can microwave your food in the store and sit at a small bar area that’s in front of the windows. Both items were $12.99. They give you utensils for your food. Workers were friendly. You’re going to have to pay for parking or you can risk being towed at Whole Foods. Overall, I may come back but it is unlikely as I feel I can find comparable...
Read moreAlways great, until today. The new girl they hired is a jerk. I heard her speaking kindly to other customers but didn't think anything of it until I got to the register. Her whole attitude changed when I walked up. She didn't greet me and then mumbled the total of my order. I told her that I couldn't hear her, and she just stared at me. Then she handed me the receipt (barley) and went to walk away. I called her out on it, she was black and so am I! I don’t know what her problem was, but she obviously hates herself and I told her as much. I live here in West Hartford and go there often, but not anymore. And I don't want my teenage twin boys, who often hang out in town and go there often, to visit there again. She'd have a field day on them, since she obviously doesn't like her own kind. I'll go...
