Dear Planet Fitness Management,
I hope this finds you well. I am writing to express my deep concern about an incident that occurred recently at sawmill Road gym location, which has left me feeling disheartened and disappointed with the current state of affairs.
As a member who was a part of the Planet Fitness community for years, I have always appreciated the welcoming environment and the professionalism displayed by your staff, especially during Stan's tenure. Under his management, the gym ran seamlessly, and incidents were minimal.
However, in the past three months, I have witnessed a significant decline in customer service, cleanliness, and professionalism at the gym. The incident on 1-1-24 between 12:30 and 1 pm involving a minor disagreement between two guests was mishandled and blown severely out of proportion by not only the manager but also by two new employees, whose conduct was concerning. (The video needs to be reviewed when the manager screams out does anybody else have anything to say and threatens to trespass people just watching the seen she has created) I had nothing to do with the situation simply looked at one person and said they’ve been here two weeks they’ll be gone by February!
The lack of effective customer service has been evident, notably with the cleanliness standards in the massage room, gym area, and tanning beds. Dust accumulation and overall filth have become noticeable, which is distressing given the high standards I have come to expect from Planet Fitness the last few years.
What concerns me most is the discriminatory behavior displayed by some staff members. I have witnessed paying guests being targeted, spoken about disrespectfully, and threatened with trespassing simply for expressing valid concerns about the management of the incident. This not only tarnishes the reputation of your establishment but also amounts to defamation of character for loyal patrons.
I am writing this letter not to criticize but to express my genuine concern and disappointment. The environment that was once inclusive and accommodating has now become hostile and uninviting. As a long-term member who values the Planet Fitness community, I implore you to address these issues promptly and restore the standards of excellence and professionalism that once defined this gym.
I believe that with the right actions, including retraining staff on customer service and hygiene protocols, implementing stricter cleanliness standards, and fostering a more inclusive and respectful atmosphere, we can restore Planet Fitness to its former glory.
I appreciate your attention to these matters and sincerely hope for positive changes that will benefit all members of the gym community. Read moreShortly before noon on May 30th, 2022, I was approached by Michael, the Planet Fitness - Westerville Plaza/Huber Village branch manager, while exercising. He indicated that gym policy forbade to have backpacks on the ground and that I would need to put my hydration pack in the lockers. I explained that last time I went to a Planet Fitness (Chicago / Lincolnwood), I had my locker broken into and my money stolen, and asked if PF was willing to take responsibility in case that happened again. He answered in the negative. I then explained that I understood the policy, as a health and safety measure, prohibiting leaving clutter on the ground, and promptly put the hydration pack on my back. The whole exchanged lasted less than a minute.
Except from this point, the only words that came out of Michael’s mouth where tense “You’re going to have to leave”. I pointed to the policy printed on the wall showing that packs shouldn’t be on the floor. "You’re going to have to leave”. I asked can we find a solution here. "You’re going to have to leave”. He would not hear ANYTHING. "You’re going to have to leave”. I obeyed despite the gross abuse, as it became clear by Michael charged, excited voice that he was going to making this about exercising his power rather than actually enforcing policy rationally.
We are talking about a small, 2L hydration bladder with pouches just big enough to fit my cellphone and wallet. Posters in the locker explicitly say to keep my valuables on me, where else am I supposed to keep them? It’s a gym, my apparel does not have pockets. Would you rather I leave them loose on the floor, where they could be a hazard, rather than on my back? I was not opposed to using the lockers, that is indeed where I stored the street clothes I changed out of.
I find this behaviour not only disrespectful, but also to be the very opposite of what customer service is supposed to be like. I am very surprised that A MANAGER of all people would loose his composure so quickly, show extremely poor judgement in his use of discretionary power (this “clear floor” rule is hardly ever enforced in any of the dozens of Planet Fitness branches I’ve visited, and virtually all patrons have a bottle, towel and cellphone on the floor near them), show absolutely no willingness to work with the client to find a solution, and ultimately resort to drastic measures at the first sign of conflict. Read moreI recently had the great opportunity to visit this Planet Fitness facility while on the road as a professional truck driver, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the cleanliness of the facility. Everything was spotless, which immediately made me feel comfortable and ready to work out 🏋🏾♂️.
The professionalism of the staff truly stood out. I want to take a moment to express my admiration for a young man I encountered during my visit to Planet Fitness. Although I didn’t catch his name, his dedication to maintaining a clean environment truly impressed me.
He was incredibly detail-oriented, making sure that every piece of equipment in the area was spotless. It was evident that he took pride in his work, and his commitment to cleanliness did not go unnoticed. In a workout facility, having clean equipment is crucial, and this young man's efforts ensured that everyone could feel safe and comfortable while exercising.
