MUSICIANS STAY AWAY!! TL;DR: As a musician the owner/sound guy is deeply unpleasant to work with & tried to pay us $0. Terrible people, worse drinks, don’t support these scammers.
My band played here this past weekend & this was by far the worst experience I have ever had with a venue in my life (I work in the music industry full time).
The sound guy, who I infer is also the owner or was the night we played, was gruff and deeply unpleasant. He had a terrible attitude, didn’t want to sound check us, & had something negative to say to every member of my band while setting up. The door guy is the most gruff and disagreeable person you’ll meet. Despite that, we were excited to play the room.
The venue made us pay for water - unusual, but fine. We paid for our own (mediocre, expensive, and moldy-tasting) drinks all night - understandable, we’re happy to. Then, when it comes time to settle up, we were told we didn’t bring enough people & we wouldn’t be getting paid. The owner of this “venue” told me to my face that we didn’t “offset his expenses.” Nevermind the tab my band, nor our guests paid. Nevermind the draw from the rest of the 4 bands on the bill. Between us, the room was bouncing- but this guy wanted to pay us $0 for a 6-person band to come to his bar, drink, bring people and play music for him. If you’re not familiar with the way this industry works, this is NOT it. This type of thinking is deeply unethical and immoral. The man who runs this room is greedy, patronizing, and will attempt to fully steal your time and energy as a musician. Stay far, far away from this place & tell...
Read moreDisappointing but you can't argue with the fact that they do get some well known acts. My wife and I hoped the few pictures over the years of chairs on the dance floor might happen for the Samantha Fish show on Tuesday night but that wasn't the case. As others have said, it was terribly hot inside once everyone in the line (literally stretched from the front of the building to the very back of the parking lot) was inside. Temps were high 90s when we arrived at 630 to find the line stretching half way to the back of the lot. Once the doors opened at 7, the line moved slowly, and by the time we got in, every seat was taken. A few guys were on stage tuning guitars as we walked through and somewhere around 730, those guys (Brendon Lindsey on guitar) played for about 45 minutes. The sound was decent, especially the guitar. The place was standing room only and any air conditioning was quickly consumed by the crowd. Samantha came on promptly at 830 and although she was wonderful and very energetic, the sound was muddled at best, certainly not top notch. The clarity was better for the opening act, in my opinion. Because the stage is very low, the crowd on the dance floor blocked any decent view, even for those with seats. The guy sitting in front of me stood up on the legs of his bar stool multiple times so he could see over the crowd, many of them holding up cell phones and cameras. We lasted until 915 and said never again. Again, glad the place can bring in such great acts, but it isn't for everyone, and I'm included in that...
Read moreJust a solid Rock club.. staff is very nice and professional.. old school kinda place. Saw YYNOT there tonight.. packed house! Phenomenal show, they do Rush covers right! Plus they have awesome original songs. Had such a great time tonight 5/20/2023. Just saw YYNOT again last night. 10/6/2023. Another great show. They had a new singer as well. Sound was especially good tonight. Tho the band had issues with their acoustic guitar so the guitarist, Billy Alexander, just made do and did it on his electric. In spite of the technical glitch, the crowd was all in as usual as they plowed thru Rush songs and original material. Look forward to their next time here at The Token. Whew! Yet another update... saw King's X & Trope here tonight. 4/20/24. Trope was excellent as the two member incarnation. Met them both after their set, both were very nice. It was a packed house yet not totally sold out I think. King's X blazed thru their awesome set of favorites and a smattering of new songs. They haven't lost a touch. Was nice getting a photo with Doug Pinnick after their set as well. Love this venue. Great staff as well. Yet another review update: 11/2/2024---- saw YYNOT here again to another enthusiastic crowd. The band played great as usual, tackling even the toughest, most challenging Rush material, mixed with their cool jammy melodic originals that set them apart from merely.. just another Rush tribute band. Oh no.....
