If there was no star or a Mr Yuck sticker option, I'd use that instead of 1 star. This company is truly poison and they will cut corners every way possible. I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy. This is the most unethical company I've ever dealt with in 40+ years. My insurance company (Safeco /Liberty Mutual) referred me to Haight Carpet and I trusted them with a very critical project. Big mistake as I had other reputable companies that would have charged my insurance company half this price and provided a quality product. Haight carpet charged $14k for a job that I later had multiple bids at $6k - $7k. I've since had 3 wood floor inspectors I hired to see if it could be fixed and each have said, the entire floor needs to be torn apart and thrown away and shocked by the product. Haight Carpet created holes in my wall and broke the millwork to remove original solid wood floor. I paid out of pocket over $2k to get this fixed. They provided only one option in the dark cherry color previously in the home. (I do hold some blame to Safeco here for referring this job to Haight Carpet and not insisting a similar high end product installed correctly) Instead, the wood panel material is around $2 a sq. foot, yet they charged nearly triple for the material and then removed the two remaining boxes of material after entering my home again without permission with lockbox key code. After a couple of months, the wood floor already has bubbles and soft spots that are up 1.5 inch depressions throughout the house. I have video of my foot lightly pressing down on wood floor and sinking 1 1/2 inches. It feels like walking on drift wood washed up on the beach rather than a solid floor. Not to be snarky, but I've literally built tree forts with my daughters that have better craftsmanship. I had two full price offers on my condo declined after inspection because of the workmanship of Haight Carpet. With housing market decline, I've lost nearly $100k in equity, mortgage payments, millwork and now ripping entire wood floor out to have an honest company install correctly. Haight did nothing to address the subfloor, although clearly written on the wood floor panelling it needs to be addressed before installation. They didn't even bring a leveling device or laser that all reputable companies will use. They did not call or send an email regarding the need to use a self leveling concrete or provide an option for me to upgrade the mat under the wood floor. Rather, they rushed the job and did not communicate that there was an issue with the subfloor. I would have fixed it. As mentioned, they charged $14k, yet used the cheapest under matting available. (saved $200 for themselves) When they finished, they dropped the millwork 3/4 of an inch to make up for the difference in material and then used adhesive to the subfloor which holds for a month or two but prevents expansion. The entire floor needs to be ripped out and redone, the flooring cannot be salvaged as it was glued together and glued to subfloor has now lifted up and creates pockets of air. Visualize a piece of plywood cut to dimensions of floor and glued around edges. I requested customer service & help to get it fixed and they fought me for months due to a 3 year guarantee that in fine print limits all of their liability. There is no guarantee. This is misleading. They called and emailed multiple times within 48 hours to get me to sign off that job was completed, but it's truly only used for their own advantage to limit any liability for their work. They were supposed to have a 3rd party inspector onsite before sending out satisfaction guarantee, but cut this cost even though it's part of their guarantee. and didn't leave room for gap expansion. Beware of their 3rd party inspector, he is paid by Haight. Find your own. Actually find any company other than Haight Carpet. I've spent this time to write an honest review in the hope that nobody else will go through the absolute nightmare I've experienced working with this company. Will report to Better...
Read moreIn the past year or so, I've worked with Haight carpets to redo first the living room in hardwood (from carpet), and to recarpet stairs and second floor of my home.
I've never done anything like it before, so it was gratifying to have someone at Haight who could make suggestions based upon my inclinations. In the case of the living room, I wanted slightly narrower hardwood of a warm color, but otherwise didn't know where to begin. I took home a number of wood samples from the store to see in the actual conditions of my house before deciding, which really helped, after a little help narrowing the basic choices down.
The results, as pictured, remain perfect today. Everything was very professional and prompt, given the time to order and ship the particular wood I wanted. Any creaks in the floor were also fixed by the process of nailing down the boards to the sub floor. There's even a discontinuity between the front and back halves of my home (the levels are slightly different, that is), that they managed to work with. As seen, they managed to keep all my old trim in the process.
When I returned to do the carpeting in my home, it was at a period of opportunity, but a short one - the time between one roommate moving in, and the other moving out. With that in mind, I asked with speed in mind - what carpets did they have on hand, were fairly reliable and sturdy, and would fit the warmer colors of my home?
Very quickly, within a couple of days, I had chosen what I wanted based on samples, Haight came and measured the area to be worked on, and a quote was furnished. While I was prepared to move everything out of the upstairs (a daunting task), they managed as well to find a way to do the job in two parts, saving me a lot of my own labor by allowing me to shuffle beds and furniture about from room to room between the days. And, particularly on the stairs, I found the workmen also succeeded in nailing down any squeaky boards in the process. Everything was left pristine and neat by the end, and before the short period of a couple of weeks I had been hoping to work within.
A special thank you to Jacob Stucky is in order on the second project, given it's constraints - working with him was great, he was prompt and attentive to my particular needs, and got me a repeat customer discount as well. I've confidence in all the staff at Haight, and will be sure to return the next time I...
Read moreI have never been this angry about a service like I am right now.We got haight carpets to remove the old carpets and install new ones in our house sometime in mid November 2020 and we moved into the house in February. We found nails with the pointy side up(carpet tacks I think)sticking out of the carpet on one flight of stairs when we moved in.We thought it was a one-off thing and didn't fuss too much and just hammered them in;but then to our horror we kept finding nails with the pointy side up sticking out. Many on that particular flight of stairs and some around other places in the house. We emailed haight carpets and they said this was unusual and offered to send someone to hammer down the nails. But we declined because we are strictly social distancing and want to avoid letting people inside the house. We still keep finding an odd nail with the pointy side out sticking out.I just stepped on one that wasn't on the flight of stairs and that triggered me to write this review so other people don’t have to go through what we are going through. After spending 16000+ dollars on carpet installation, one expects decent quality work not such a shoddy job.THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE!I have a 14 month old who climbs up and down the stairs and I’m worried sick that he will step on a nail that we haven’t found.I shouldn’t have to worry about safety in my house. EDIT:I understand carpet tacks are necessary for carpet installation but if the existing tack strips were not compatible with the new carpet, why weren’t they replaced by haight carpets? After installation,if the tacks are protruding, the installers could rake a hammer across the tacks to bend them so that they are dulled and not a hazard. This should have been taken care of when it was installed.I still keep finding sharp tacks around the house. And yes, they are present at every threshold and stairs and are protruding at...
