Covington Cellars — Attraction in Woodinville

The wine is good but their business practices are terrible. We signed up for the wine club and were supposed to receive 4 bottles three times a year. All of a sudden we received an email stating that our SIX bottles were ready for pickup. They changed our club without notifying us. Instead of 12 bottles a year, we would be in the hook for 24 bottles! We emailed a couple of times to talk about the situation but they would not reply. Phone calls not answered and not returned. We finally had to dispute the charges with our bank and we finally received an automated email telling us that our account had been credited. We have still not spoken with anyone. Not good customer service. Update: We finally received a communication from the owner. Turns out we joined the club the same day that the club changed but the website had not been updated. That explains the lack of notification of the change. However, my comments about the lack of response to our emails and phone calls still stand. They say that they sent an email reply but we never received it. Bottom line, it took two weeks to get our refund and that didn't happen until we complained to the bank. CC says that they refunded us "immediately", but for us it was two weeks. Pandemic or no, it's best to deal with situations before they become problems. We did a wine tour recently with a group of co-workers. The tour was very good, and Dave knew his stuff. We've toured many wineries in the area and all but one (Woodhouse) were very nice, accomodating, and hospitable. Now it's two. Covington did a superb job of aggravating the organizer. I simply don't get it. After agreeing to the price per person, the co-owner tried to charge us more when we arrived. I showed her the email, and she claimed we were getting a deal. I had to pay 50% down three weeks in advance (it was going to be 100% down before I talked her down to 50%). Classic bait and switch. She accepted the agreed upon price, but didn't give us any reimbursement for purchasing a bottle because of the "deal" we were getting. To me, this is horrific customer service in a business that is selling an experience, bottled tightly in a luxury item, and in Covington's case, a mediocre luxury item. Tour groups should be encouraged, not discouraged from going to wineries. Why would you dissuade people from bringing in 20 potential customers? This isn't the first time this has happened (as noted with the other winery above), which to me means there are too many wineries in Woodinville. Some of the lesser ones need to be weeded out. My wife and I were lucky enough to get married at Covington Cellars in 2014 and they made it a truly special occasion. The food was outstanding and service amazing. They really knew how to make us feel at home on such an important day. Since our marriage we had moved out of state and recently visited the area last month. I thought it would be a wonderful surprise to my wife to stop in and enjoy a glass of their signature wine but hadn't done my research as to weather they were open. I called in duress and Kerri understood my dilemma and offered to open up after hours just for us for a couple of minutes so we could enjoy their location once again.
