We do a lot of wine tasting in Washington, Oregon and California. We are in the Red Mountain area with another couple for a wonderful four days of wine tasting. It is unfortunate that today was marred by an unpleasant experience at this winery all due to their rigidity in tasting fees. Their $25 tasting fee was very high for their quality of wine but we were fine with that bra cause it was waived with $50 purchase. No problem except for that my favorite wine was $40 and my wife’s favorite was $50. We asked if that purchase would qualify to waive the the tasting fee. The manager was rude and said we had to spend $100 and that was their policy. No apology, just a flat no. So the winery lost purchase from all four of us and a very negative experience overall. The tasting room added nothing to the whole experience; in fact I think it detracted from it- sterile, cold, no charm or character at all. And one word- chairs! Apparently sitting down and enjoying the tasting isn't allowed here- it's almost like they don't want you to have an enjoyable time- ugh. Not worth the steep tasting fee and $100 waiver. Also of note, the service was fairly lacking, no discernible knowledge of their wines- we were handed a sheet with a QR code to access the tasting notes with no interest in discussing the wines being poured. Wine...

I was frankly shocked at the (lack of) quality of these wines. Most were thin with one even bordering on watery, they all had detracting notes along the lines of strange medicinals/bitterness, light green notes or flat/dull in nature. Only the arnaut diverged but it held brown sugar maple sweetness with a bit of reductive-ness.
Hopefully this was just an off vintage and the winemaker isn’t neglecting things here with his hands in other higher...
