So I have a friend who lives near this location and have bought games here frequently. However, something that had happened recently kinda ruined this game store for not only him, but for me and his younger brother. To elaborate: yesterday, on September 15th, we were walking to Thatâs Entertainment. I was carrying a water bottle because it was a little warm that day and I didnât want to get overheated. When we got there and walked in, we started looking around to see what they had today. At least thatâs what we were doing a few seconds before one of the employees (my friend recalled there being two, but I only saw one of them at that moment) started marching towards us, saying in a bit of a rude manner something along the lines of: âNO NO NO NO NO! WE TOLD YOU GUYS YOU CANNOT SHOP AT THIS LOCATION. YOU GUYS NEED TO LEAVE.â Granted, we havenât done anything wrong, nor remember doing anything to warrant be kicked out. So we decided to head to his home to figure out what had happened, cause they never explained why they were kicking us out. After calling up Thatâs Entertainment, we learned that apparently 3 kids ended up causing a ruckus, throwing products and making a mess despite being warned multiple times, and one of the things they were told to look out for was a water bottle (which by that description could be literally anyone). So basically we were mistaken for different people and rudely kicked out of the store for something we didnât even do.
Update: not too long after posting this review, someone from Thatâs Entertainment called my friend and admitted to their mistake in misidentifying us and are willing to compensate and apologize in person for it. While it still kinda stunk that it happened, I am glad that everything was resolved quickly and we are able to come back without any issues. Iâm also proud of Thatâs Entertainment for admitting their mistake and showing that theyâre willing to make it right. So far theyâre doing a good job earning back our trust and we hope that they continue to rebuild it the...
Read moreThat's E has some good selections of books but that's all you should come here for really. Been going to this store for the last five years and not once have I ever felt welcomed to be there. The old man who I think is the manager always has a strong attitude and snarky comments. I do not like interacting with him. I don't know if that's a normal thing or because I'm different from the rest of the people there (not white).
Speaking of which, the staffing has no diversity at all. Every time I walk into the store I feel like I'm entering a whole different part of Worcester. The city is full of diverse people and cultures, why are the staff not? To be blunt, all of the staff there are white and every time I walk into the store I feel like I have to walk on eggshells and tone switch because there is no people of color in the store. I remember one time I got ID'd (I was buying comics and a plushie). I've never seen anyone else get ID'd...? I went home wondering what that was all about.
Also the store is friendly to your wallet if you're a fan of Pokemon. They are selling a complete in case copy of Pokemon Platinum but the cartridge has the label ripped off. You would think that would degrade a price of a game but NO. THE GAME IS $170! COMPLETE RIP OFF. Every time I've seen a Pokemon game there on the GBA/DS case they've been over $100. Oh, and for the cards, they were selling Surging Sparks boosters for $10... 2x the MSRP. They said they were going to sell Journey Together ETB for $85... That's a $25 mark up. I was told they were price it fairly but c'mon don't play dumb. TCG House of Cards on Madison st were selling them for $65! It sucks this place is the only comic book shop and one of the few Pokemon hangout spots in the Worcester area.
Come here only to get your books and leave. Buy anything else at other shops or online. I've seen better examples of comic book stores and this is not one of them. If anything, this is an example of how to advantage of your community. Squeeze as much out of your locals...
Read moreI've lived in Worcester for about 7 years and have been a regular customer here for Retro Games, and TCG stuff.
I'm confident when I say that this is the best Comic/Game shop in Massachusetts. Their prices on retro games are fair, and at least match eBay, the shop itself is massive and well curated, and the staff is polite, energetic, and enthusiastic about the stuff they're into. I like their branding, and they are pretty generous with sales. Their second location in Fitchburg is great too, and has a greater selection of Retro Games.
I just have two minor gripes, that don't affect my rating. These are issues that basically every game store struggles with:
I will say that when it comes to TCG, their prices aren't always up to date. Often some cards sit in the case with higher prices than what you can get online, but I think I still prefer this approach to no-price tags at all. Sometimes you can find a deal because of this, but I do wish they'd honor online medium prices when there is a major discrepancy: because standard stuff changes often.
A second issue is that often times, volume 1 of a lot of graphic novels don't seem to be re-ordered, which makes trying new books a bit harder. This is just what I've noticed for titles I'm interested in though.
Overall this shop is a cornerstone of Worcester, and easily worth a visit if you're even remotely interested in any entertainment related collectibles, vinyl records, games, or comics. It's also a fantastic place to buy gifts for people, especially arouns holidays due to...
