After being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, my doctors arranged for me to come to Wytheville so I could go through treatment at Blue Ridge Cancer Care Center. As part of my treatment and physical therapy my doctors told me I needed to start doing endurance walking so I decided to find a local park with a trail or path I could enjoy. That's how I discovered Withers Park.
Once there I was very pleased to see there was a military memorial there and a open air stage for outdoor music venues, there's a playground and slides and a jungle gym for children of all ages, including the adult children too. It had a nice paved path I could use to walk around a large centralized field that provided enough green grass to house a football game or softball game or simply just lay out and get some sun while enjoying the quiet pleasant natural environment, squirrels and manicured grass all around the park.
I was pleased to also discover that the bathrooms are heated, clean and maintained on a daily routine by Wytheville Parks and Recreation. I wasn't afraid to use the bathroom even though I can get sick extremely easily.
The path is conveniently a quarter of a mile therefore it was easy for me to discover= I only needed to walk 20 laps to do 5 miles. I arrive at Withers Park everyday at 10:00 am and walk 20 laps ( 5 miles ) around the park path and I've done it every single day since May 28, 2024 and I am still walking a minimum of 20 laps daily, no matter if there is rain, sleet, snow, ice, wind, hurricane force winds of a Category 5 tornado.
Lastly, I feel it's needed to be added that ever since May 28, 2024 I have been coming to this park to walk, enjoy the outdoors and reduce stress, anxiety or depression. Not once since May 28, 2024 have I had a negative encounter or experience. Even the local homeless community who may come to the park to use the bathroom or enjoy the environment take care of the park and don't let anyone litter or destroy the park. Visitors and homeless alike have never given me a problem.
It is my opinion that Withers Park is without a doubt The Best Park in Wytheville for safe, fun and enjoyable outdoor activities and fun is Withers Park. I give it 5 stars and my personal review..... Great Job Wytheville Town Manager and Developers..... You build a park that is the best...
Read moreHad a good time at Withers Park this afternoon with my wife and son and GS dog! My son enjoyed the playground and walking on the old bleachers!
The war memorial for those who have fought and gave there lives so we can live the way we do today is very nice!
The walking track is in nice condition as well! Glad we had a chance to swing by and enjoy this neat park and read about its history and how it became what it is today!
The bathroom were not bad considering they are open to the public. If one is in an emergency you would be happy they are there! Bring some hand sanitizer or soap. I would probably say some tp in your park bag would be nice to have as well they are public so you might have or you might not.
We will hit this park again it was...
Read moreA beautiful local park in Wytheville, VA. We wanted a place to get our steps in after traveling all day, and this park came up in a search. There's a walking path around the perimeter of the park. If you walk around 5 times, then you've walked one mile. They had a large open tent already up, which we found out later while talking to a local resident, they keep up during the summer for local concerts and events. There is a pool right next toe park. It wasn't open, but looked like it would be soon. The playground was adorable and very well maintained. We met a lovely gentleman by the name of Jim and his sweet dog, Poppy. We loved talking to him about his town! He and his wife love it in Wytheville. Beautiful...
