Absolutely the most horrible experience I have ever had in one town. Everyone was so rude. My son couldnt even pick anything up without someone being rude to him and us thinking he was gonna break something. 99% of the place was not handicap/wheelchair friendly. Had my 92 yr old grandmother with me and she couldnt experience half of the stores there because we either couldnt get in because there were too many obstacles to get the wheelchair to the door or the store was too crowded with merchandise that we couldnt go through without almost breaking everything because there was so little space. Will never go back and will make sure to let everyone I know aware of how horrible that place is now. Read moreThere are souvenir shops, restaurants, Native Indian performers, all the commercial establishments you'll expect in an area designed for tourists. But....Cherokee is much more. It has a charm all of it's own. The shallow river, perfect for families with children of all ages. A unique bamboo forest. Authentic Cherokee Indian art shops, not to be confused with those plentiful souvenir places. The museum, the outdoor theater...too many places to list here. Cherokee is a special place, not as trendy as Gatlinburg but a lot less expensive. And Harrahs Casino is worth checking out. There is much to see even if you are not a gambler. Don't be surprised if you see an Elk or two...

The flowing creeks are enough alone to take your breath away but then you have the awesome history of the Cherokee Indians and other tribes. My husband is part native Indian so his love for the outdoors is unbelievable. If we could move up to the mountains I know without a doubt we'd both say heck yes.
