This is my happy place. Or at least it used to be. I come about once a week so this review isn’t based on a one time experience. It’s gotten more difficult over the past few months to be able to focus on reading or working here. It feels like social hour here and the number of people socializing at full volume vs. the number of people attempting to work or read silently is probably 3:1. On more than one visit I’ve seen people take phone calls at full volume, people eating their lunches at shared tables (despite the signs that say no food allowed) and teens and kids running around chatting as they go. I’m all for community and I love that people have found a place to gather, but I don’t think a library where people are researching and deep in thought is the place to do it. At least when I grew up that’s how libraries were run. We would never speak over a whisper. Unfortunately this doesn’t seem to bother any of the staff as they don’t do anything about this. But I’ve seen other people on their laptops also looking distracted and frustrated by the volume of others. I’ve stopped coming as frequently but I do need a place to work outside of my home as I don’t have the space for an office.
Aside from this, it is a beautiful facility with many amenities and is kept very clean! I love the atmosphere, the selection, and the location and so I’d still totally recommend this library, just maybe consider renting one of their offices if you are looking for...
Read moreReally spacious library. Their children's area is huge with plenty of books and places to sit while still socially distanced. I like that many books are on display throughout the library to be taken and read. I found myself taking one of them rather than searching for one in the many aisles and reading with my child. The abundance of natural lighting adds to an uplifting mood. There is great area to learn more about the history of Yorba Linda complete with artifacts and images. Aside from the multitude of books and DVDs you can also borrow board games, vinyl records and even ready to go "book club" in a bag." These "book club in a bag" includes a set of books complete with a printed summary and several discussion questions. Searching for resources is easy and accessible using the many available digital search stations. Even neater, you can also take away various vegetable and fruit seeds from their catalogue. The library also has a small store that sells various used books and DVDs. There are plenty of study rooms tucked away and scattered throughout the library. Self checkout stands...
Read moreAlthough it seems as the yorba Linda library has great staff on the surface. The yorba linda library technical skills of their staff is still stuck in the 1994 computing era. Although the library has attempted to rise and improve their services by including 3D printing and the M2 lab. They lack the knowledge and skill to make use of such technology makes it non existent and unavailable to the taxpayer. Two very exciting additions to any library (3D printing and the M2 lab). Such technologies held in the library's server room (3D printer) and M2 lab by not providing and offering the needed software to power such service as 3D printing.
As a result the library staff is happily living in the past.
I suggest its time to update the aging staff with one that is still flexible and willing to learn the skills of tomorrow to help our people the taxpayer reach their potential.
While it is nice to have the hardware like a 3D printer at the library; if the skill of the operator of such hardware is not brought up to date then a 3D printer and the M2 Lab availability...
