I seriously can't understand how this place gets so many stars. I believe this is the worst sushi place I've ever been to. The name fits for sure because the sushi is really noguchi! I live close by so I was really hoping it was going to be great. We got the opposite. We walked in and weren't greeted, the place was super hot inside...no air conditioning in 85' weather. It took a while for the waiter to come to us even though there was nobody there but the sushi chefs. The menus don't have a variety. I asked for a Philly roll and they come out and say they don't have cream cheese...ever....I've never been to a sushi place that doesn't ever have cream cheese. I asked what vegetables they give as the tempura vegetables and the waiter gives me the menu and tells me to look there. I look thinking, ok he may not know. So, the menu will have the details...no...the menu said vegetable tempura. Lol! Finally, we order drinks...took them forever to bring the drinks! Remember now, we are the only ones there! Then, we asked for straws, nothing. We asked for straws again...they came way later. We asked for Siracha and eel sauce...they were so cheap and gave us one tiny container for each sauce. Honestly, we had our drinks, shared one roll, and went to Maki Yaki in Placentia. That place is so much better! We will definitely not ever be back here again. By the way, the one roll we ate...aye..the crunchy roll...it was gross! It didn't taste fresh at all. I give it 1 star for the miso soup. We did like...
Read moreMy wife and I discovered Sushi Noguchi a few months ago and quickly became regulars. We’ve brought several guests here and enjoyed four consistently outstanding meals—until our most recent visit, which left us deeply disappointed and sick.
On this occasion, we ordered two servings of the sweet shrimp, a dish we typically love. But when the shrimp arrived, they looked noticeably different—a red flag I regret ignoring. The taste was overwhelmingly fishy, unlike anything we’d had before.
When I mentioned this to our server, she explained that due to seasonal availability, the restaurant was using frozen shrimp instead of the usual live ones. She acknowledged that the chef should have informed us of the substitution, but no one did. Both the server and the chef were apologetic, and we were offered a 50% discount on the dish, which we appreciated—but that didn’t address the larger issue.
Around 2 a.m., I woke up with intense nausea, chills, vomiting, and diarrhea that lasted into the next day. This was clearly food-related, and the sweet shrimp was the only new variable.
It’s incredibly disappointing, not just because we’ve been loyal customers, but because the signs were there: unusual appearance, strong odor, and a known substitution. The shrimp should never have been served.
Unfortunately, we’re now hesitant to return, and that’s...
Read moreSushi Noguchi has been my family's go-to restaurant for any special occasion (birthdays, anniversaries, guests in town, etc.), and everyone we have brought here has loved it just as much as we do. My husband and I lived in LA where there is an abundance of good japanese restaurants, and were struggling to find a solid japanese restaurant when we moved to north OC until we discovered Sushi Noguchi. For the quality of the food here, the prices are very reasonable. The sushi is fresh, and there are also plenty of cooked food options for those who don't eat raw fish. They can even make rolls that aren't on the menu, you just have to ask them if they have what you want! The service here is also top notch, they are super kind and attentive, but don't bother you more than they need to. The ambiance is also so nice inside with all of the wood and spaced out tables. Due to the pandemic, we have not been dining in-person here (I believe they do have outdoor dining now), but we have ordered takeout many times and the food/service have been...
