I have been here TWICE on different occasions, and our service has been horrible.
The first time I came here was on a date with my husband. It was quite busy that evening, and I remember being impressed by the restaurant's layout and the aroma it carried. The manager at the time sat us down and said someone would be with us shortly. During our 15 minutes waiting frame, the servers continued to seat others, take orders, and take food out. No one EVER approached us until we finally called someone over. We finally were able place our food order. However, during our wait, new customers arrived(Asians). Orders of the other individuals were taken after us, and all their orders were coming out first!? Once we saw other customers were getting their food before us, we did get impatient. Our waiting time had now been 50 minutes!! We never received our food. Hungry and agitated we got up and left.
Now the second time, my husband convinced me to try the restaurant again, and I agreed. This time we arrived precisely at 11:00 am. The restaurant had just opened, and we were the first and only ones! The server was a little rude but took our orders, and that was that. Shortly after, two Asian ladies with a toddler arrive, and the server takes their order. Suddenly, it is 11:25, and those Asian ladies have their entire order while my husband, son, and I are still waiting for our meal. My son received his meal shortly after, 10 minutes later, my husband and until 11:45 am, I received mine. You best believe I was agitated again. I confronted the server because, honestly, it makes no sense in this case. The server saw us sitting there and the fact he never questioned the kitchen about our order demonstrated he had no concern.
Therefore, based on both our experiences, I conclude there is a racial preference for who they serve their food first. Min's Bristo lacks kitchen/order organization skills. As well as customer service. I do not believe service is a matter of concern to them. I will never come back here again, nor will I ever recommend this place. You are better off with...
Read moreMy wife's boss recommended Min's Bistro highly, especially touting Mongolian Beef as a must item. Since we were nearby after a medical appointment and were hungry. So we thought: "Why not!"
Food: we ordered the Mongolian Beef, Honey Walnut Shrimp lunch specials and xiao long bao as an appetizer. We got the xiao long bao first. The taste wasn't terrible. It didn't taste that good either. They smack of having sat in the freezer a bit too long and had dried out a bit. So meh it was. 2 out of 5 stars. Would not recommend ordering unless your hankering for XLB is overwhelming.
After the disappointing XLB, Min's Bistro redeemed itself with the actual lunch specials. Each dish was served with a bowl of rice and a hot an sour soup. The Mongolian Beef was delicious. It was perfectly cooked where the meat was tasty and tender. The onion and scallions were perfectly sautéed nearly to the point of caramelization. By itself, this is a 5-star item.
The Honey Walnut Shrimp were made with a large shrimp. They were shelled and deveined properly. You'd be surprise how many Chinese restaurants don't deveined their shrimps properly. But Min's Bistro did an excellent job with it. The taste of the shrimp itself was decent. The mayo was a bit overly much. I'd recommend the kitchen to either cut back on the mayo or do a 2-step stir-frying plus deep-frying process to lend the shrimps with slightly crunchy mayo shells. That would've better complemented the honey walnuts. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
Service & atmosphere: the restaurant is minimalist chic. It looks clean and well maintained. Eddie, our server, did a good job of covering the 4 tables of customer. The service wasn't super quick. But it wasn't slow or inattentive either. Anyhow, it's consistent with other 50-dollar lunch for 2 places.
Conclusion: I would come back to Min's Bistro if I am ever looking for lunch at Yorba...
Read moreSo, the food here is great but the service was horrible! I took my wife out on a date and we went toMin's Bistro and then the movies. We sat down and the restaurant was moderately full but not packed. We ordered our soup and then three entrees. Chicken Chow Mien, Orange Chicken and Mongolian Beef. After about 15 minutes 3 ladies of Chinese decent came in and sat at the table next to us. They ordered their food as our soup arrived. After we finished our soup the waiter started bringing out their entrees while my wife and I waited. I wondered how when we order15 minutes before they even sat down and did their order, how could they get their food before us while we sat there hungry and waiting? Finally, the waiter brought the Orange Chicken, White Rice and Chow Mien. We tore into it but still no Mongolian Beef yet the ladies table was full of food. We finished the Orange Chicken and Chow Mien and then the waiter came and said that our Mongolian Beef would be right out. I said NO! That I didn't want it now and he said OK. A few minutes later, he brought the three ladies an entree of Mongolian Beef and said it was "on the house". They just ignored the entree and continued to mow down their food. In my opinion it was quite blatant that these ladies were way more important than my wife and I. Like I said... Great food but I really know who their preferred customer is. Racism is...
