It was interesting to see some of the exhibits related to the native americans in the area and history of the agricutural develpment. They have an entire section devoted to Lewis and Clark which is confusing because according to the route Sutter County has nothing to do with the expedition.
I believe Yuba City and Sutter County in general needs to promote more advertising of the museum through local businesses. Perhaps even add even more local military history if they work together with the private military museum right outside the front gate at Beale AFB. The American Legion might be able to get involved too.
It may be a small museum but it also has alot of potential for growth. There is alot of history in this area and its a shame the museum doesn't show it. The gift shop is a treasure trove of local artist, often in the theme of the current temporary display, for instance, the current display, up until May this year, is about the Japanese Internment, the gift shop includes ceramics from a local artist of various rice bowls with chop stick holders built in, or the mother of a local makes origami dragon earrings. They also have extensive book offerings, both art books and informative books about the current display on many of the Internment camps, as well as people's personal experiences with the internment, or the history of the area including each small town in the area. The exhibits are professionally presented and the staff will answer just about any question a person might have about the Yuba-Sutter area. They also bring in temporary exhibits from the Smithsonian and other museums in the U.S. and California. Your kids will love the Indian baskets and the scenes of daily life. They also have exhibits devoted to Americans of Punjabi, Chinese, Japanese, and Hmong descent. A sign stated that a permanent exhibit on Mexican-American culture in Sutter county would open soon.
