Star of India Restaurant — Restaurant in Yuba City

The food wasn't terrible, but met with pretty bad service. This was a major let down. The waiters are lacking in etiquette and training; they make frequent mistakes taking orders, they deliver appetizers and main courses at the same time, they pile dishes and silverware in the middle of the table instead of properly placing them in front of each customer, lastly they refuse to make eye contact and don't check up on your table while serving making it difficult to catch their attention when needed. My dish was very spicy when I asked for medium. I overheard a customer sitting behind me asking for "not spicy". They had also recieved a very spicy dish and made a complaint. This indicates pretty obvious signs of miscommunication between the kitchen and service. I am sure the staff means well, but the place clearly needs to be better managed by someone who knows how to run a functional indian restaurant. very bad service, I used to take my family there since 2009 ,they were the best in town, open buffet ,or regular orders,since these 2 girls waiters came the things changed,i do not know if the management had been changed as well or no, today we ordered some food one of the orders was bakkura ,literally the waiter asked us if we want it veggie and our answer was yes please make sure veggie, we waited over 1 hour ,the drinks came (fountain) asked for refill over 3 times and nothing, at last she pointed to the fridge so we can have cans,we asked for fountain, but any how we got only one refill the the veggie bakkura was fish some how, we called her and asked her this is wrong order she said no you ordered fish ,we asked for manager her answer was (no manager) latterly, this is how to lose...

This restaurant serves what is probably the tastiest and most authentic Indian food around. My husband is Indian and he really likes their food. We have also been to a few expensive Indian restaurants in California , and their food was not as good as Star of India. Their naan and roti are literally the best. And all of their curries are really delicious. Their samosas are wonderful. Often, Indian restaurants make food really flavorless when you ask for “mild”. But in Star of India the curry is still super delicious and flavorful, even if it is “mild”. The staff are really friendly, and helpful. It is very clean and pleasant.
