Read moreWe have been going here for over seven years, we knew all of the staff, it was a friendly experience, and the food was always good. Fast forward to tonight, new owners, new staff. We placed our usual orders, we always ordered the same thing, but we pointed out to the new staff what our order was exactly. Food was good as usual, but one order came out which we didn't and have never ordered. The server made us think and feel as if it was our order, bringing it out twice, but really it wasn't our order. Two other orders came out, where we asked for the chicken to be white meat, the two orders came out as dark meat. So we sent both back (never had an issue before). Everything went ok after that. Until......the bill. We went into Sam's club today and purchased four of their Taste of India bombay lounge, gift cards, always been good value. But when we place the gift cards on the table to pay the bill, the server said they wouldn't be accepted (what, they sell their gift cards in Sam's club, but they aren't accepted). The server called the new owner, and told us the gift card would be acceptable, but Sam's club shouldn't be selling them) and they would make a special concession out of the goodness of their heart, but they made it very clear that we were in the wrong (really, it's our fault because we purchased this gift cards from Sams club on the same day that we planned to eat here, they said the gift cards would be acceptable in a week's time, but not tonight). We apologized to the server for standing our ground on the gift cards, and she just said we were aggressive customers, and under California law the owner said they didn't have to accept the gift cards. We settled the bill with the gift cards and promptly left. Seven years we have been going here, always loved the people, the place and the food, but boy, has that all changed. The food was still pretty good, but the attitude of our server and the new owner made us feel that we were totally in the wrong. Sadly after sevens years of eating here and enjoying the food, the servers and the old owners, tonights episode was too much, very sadly we will never...
Read moreI was in Yuba City running some errands and planned to have lunch afterwards. As my two previous experiences with Indian cuisine were somewhat disappointing, I had decided to give it a pass, and go for something more familiar. However, the restaurant I had originally chosen was closed, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
I hadn't seen this restaurant in my previous searches, and found it completely by accident. It was conveniently located right on the main road, so I said, "What the heck? I'm in Yuba City, and I don't come across Indian food often," so I decided to take the risk and pop in.
We weren't too familiar with Indian cuisine, so we were kind of just taking a shot in the dark. We ordered the Lamb Karahi and Chicken Curry Kebab, which both came with a side of rice, along with some garlic flatbread. Our biggest concern was that we'd end up going home still feeling hungry, but the portions were large enough to go home with leftovers.
We ordered both dishes "mild". The spice level on the Chicken Curry was just right, but the Lamb Karahi was hotter than I expected. It was yummy, but a bit too hot to finish in one sitting.
Thankfully, the woman who took our order, which I'm assuming is the owner, was really friendly and asked us if we want takeout boxes, and even gave us a bag to put them in. She also brought us all our change, even though we wanted to leave it as a tip.
In total, we paid just over $37.00 for everything, which I felt was reasonable by today's standards. The price of each meat type is the same, no matter how you get it done, which I thought it was really nice.
Some of the dishes are served in traditional Indian bowls, but the owner had no qualms about bringing us extra plates. The ambience of the place also wasn't bad, though it looked like it was a lot nicer, before COVID. When you enter, go into the bar area to be seated, as the buffet area currently isn't operating.
I easily give this place a 5. There is very little to complain about, and I was pleased that I finally found an Indian place that does Indian food right. I guess third time really...
