Post-soviet museum of history of Uzbekistan. Good place to visit in Tashkent. Pros. Some really unique items, sculptures and wall paintings from Kushan (and Greek-Bactrian) period (right before the turks' migration) Some items from Palaeolithic period (from the Teshik-Tash cave found by Okladnikov's expedition)

Cons. No elevators. Try to move between the floors with baby carriage and your 2 years ago old baby. Not the best experience. Taking pictures isn't free... One must pay for it (almost the same price as entrance fee). Like in stone age, really. Everybody has mobile phones nowadays, what to pay for? Not so informative tables with information. First floor in three languages (uzbek/eng/rus). Second floor uzbek and English only. Nothing about ethnographic history of uzbeki people themselves. When uzbek ethnonym firstly arised, when did they came, from where.. nothing. Just fakes about historical persons like Tamerlane: he wasn't an uzbek. And of course he didn't lead the rebellion against Mongolian invaders. 4.1. Blackened "russian empire" and soviet period. By the way, there was no Uzbekistan before Russian expansion. The state in it's contemporary borders was created in soviet times. But there's nothing about it. Second floor is literally nothing to see. If you don't believe that Islam Karimov had saved...

Oʻzbekiston davlat sanʼat muzeyi madaniy-maʼrifiy, ilmiy muassasa; Oʻrta Osiyoda ilk bor tashkil etilgan badiiy muzey. 1918 yilda Toshkent shahrida Xalq universiteti muzeyi sifatida asos solingan; keyinchalik Markaziy badiiy muzey, 1924 yildan Toshkent sanʼat muzeyi, 1935 yildan hozirgi nomda. Muzey Toshkentda yashagan knyaz N.K.Romanovning shaxsiy toʻplami (rus va Gʻarbiy Yevropa rassomlari yaratgan portret va tarixiy kartinalar, grafika va hay kaltaroshlik asarlari, badiiy mebel, chinni buyumlar va boshqalar) negizida vujudga kelgan. Turkiston oʻlkashunoslik muzeyining badiiy boʻlimidan va boshqalar muzeylarning fondlaridan, shaxsiy toʻplamlardan sanʼat asarlari keltirilib boyitilgan (V.L. Borovikovskiy, K. P. Bryullov, V. A. Tropinin, I.M.Nikitin, O.A.Kiprenskiy, I.K.Ayvazovskiy, S.V.Ivanov, I.N. Kramskoy, N.N.Ge, A.K. Savrasov, I. I.Shishkin, V.G. Perov va boshqalar); muzeyda 19-asr rus rassomlarining nodir asarlari toʻplangan (I.Ye.Repin, V. A. Serov, I.I. Levitan, N.K.Rerix va boshqalar). Muzey fondi 50 mingdan ziyod eksponatga ega (2005), tomoshabinlar soni yiliga 250 mingdan oshadi. Muzeyda Oʻzbekiston xalq amaliy sanʼati, Oʻzbekiston tasviriy sanʼati, rus sanʼati, Gʻarbiy Yevropa sanʼati, Xorijiy Sharq xalklari sanʼati boʻlimlari, xazina, taʼmirlash ustaxonasi, fotolaboratoriya bor, lektoriy tashkil etilgan. Muzey ilmiy muassasa sifatida Oʻzbekiston tasviriy sanʼati boʻyicha ilmiy tekshirish ishlari olib boradi: sanʼat asarlari sotib oladi, ularni ilmiy yoritadi, muzey xazinasidagi sanʼat asarlarini tahlil qiladi, tavsiflaydi, ilmiy asarlar, katalog , albomlar nashr etadi (mas, "Yapon gravyurasi Oʻzbekiston davlat sanʼat muzeyi toʻplamida" katalogi; "Davlat sanʼat muzeyi" albomi, "Toshkentda eng yaxshi" turkum maʼlumot kitobi va boshqalar), xazinasidagi sanʼat asarlari asosida mavzuli koʻrgazmalar tashkil etadi, chet mamlakatlar (AQSH, Belgiya, Buyuk Britaniya, Germaniya, Fransiya, Shveysariya, Rossiya, Xitoy, Yaponiya va boshqalar) koʻrgazmalarida ishtirok etadi (jumladan, "EKSPO—2000" xalqaro koʻrgazmasi, Germaniyada; Xalqaro gilamdoʻzlik koʻrgazmasi hamda "Qadimshunoslik va amaliy sanʼat", AQShda va boshqalar). Ayniqsa, mustaqillik yillarida xorijiy mamlakatlar bilan ijodiy aloqalar kengaydi. Muzey Xalqaro muzeylar qoʻmitasi (IKOM) aʼzosidir. Muzeyga turli davrlarda Sh. Hasanova, S.Abdullayev, D.Roʻziboyev rahbarlik qilgan; 1997 yildan muzey rahbari Nasiba Ibrohimova. Muzey ekspozitsiyasi sanʼat janri va turlariga ajratilgan holda xronologik tartibda tuzilgan. Har bir zaldagi eksponatlar sanʼat turlari, maktablari, anʼanalar va hozirgi rivojlanish markazlariga qarab joylashtirilgan. Ekspozitsiya Oʻzbekistonning qadimiy sanʼat yodgorliklari — Zarautsoy rasmlari, Xolchayondan topilgan haykallarni, soʻng Oʻzbekiston xalq amaliy bezak sanʼatini namoyish etish bilan boshlanadi. Oʻrta Osiyoda yashab ijod etgan rassomlar (I.S.Kazakov, N.N.Karazin, R.K.Zommer va boshqalar)ning 250 ga yaqin sanʼat asarlari toʻplangan, shu yerda ishlagan rassom P. Benkov, A. Volkov, M.I.Kurzin, Usto Moʻmin (A. Nikolayev), O. Tatevosyan, V. Ufimsev, N.V.Kashina, Z.M.Kovalevskaya va boshqalarning asarlariga ekspozitsiyadan alohida oʻrin berilgan. Muzey fondining katta qismini Oʻzbekiston tasviriy sanʼati asarlari tashkil qiladi: Oʻzbekiston tabiat kuychisi Oʻ. Tansiqboyev, A. Abdullayev, Ya.Abdullayev, Sh. Hasanova, Ch.Ahmarov, R. Ahmedov, N.Qoʻziboyev, S. Abdullayev, R.Choriyev ijodi, tasviriy sanʼat taraqqiyotidagi ularning hissasi muzey ekspozitsiyalarida oʻz aksini topgan. Muzey, shuningdek, boy oʻzbek amaliy sanʼati toʻplamiga ega: ganch, yogʻoch va tosh oʻymakorligi namunalari, zargarlik, gilamchilik, kashtadoʻzlik, kulollikka mansub qimmatli buyumlar oʻzbek xalqining qadimiy va boy amaliy bezak sanʼati haqida mukammal maʼlumot beradi. Muzey dastlab knyaz N.K.Romanov...

Temporarily closed from June 2024 for major upgrades and renovations, this museum of the History of Uzbekistan preserves the material record from ancient times (human remains from 1.5 millions years ago) to the three Khanates (Khiva, Kokand and Bukhara) and into 20th century. and current issues since 1991 independence. While the museum was founded way back in 1876, and under the Soviets called Lenin Museum, the current building dates from 1970, part of a major rebuilding effort needed after the 1966 earthquake demolished most buildings. I think it elegantly reflects the modernist 1960s vibe combined with local, "ethnic"?, features. The day I visited in July 2024, it was shrouded in scaffolding and measured and assessed by architects and contractors. Can't to come back from New York to see it when it...

This museum is in a large building, with the exhibits on the ground and first floors. It covers the history of the region from the stone age to the present day. There were some beautiful creations from the Persians and Bactrian Greeks as well as Bhuddist sculptures that were so prevalent in the area before the rise of Islam. There were sections on the massive contributions to science, medicine, architecture and culture that made this area critically important to world history. There was also a very large section showing how the country had improved since independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. This part was created by the Islam Karimov school of propaganda and was rather one sided!

This museum might be only two levels, but it’s fantastic. Covers the country from pre-history through today and is a great introduction to the country if you’re starting your tour in Tashkent. It will leave you inspired and ready for the adventures you’re about to experience as you tour the rest of the country, or will be a great summary of your trip if you visit this museum on your way home. It’s wonderful that the museum has been able to retain so many ancient artefacts. The third floor is covered end-to-end in models of Uzbekistans many modern achievements, which I personally think are very cool.

The entrance fee is 15.000 som for locals and 50.000 som for foreigners, with extra charge for photos, which is a pity. I've spend a little more than an hour to cover everything, and I could easily say that this is the best museum I've been to in Uzbekistan, but mostly because the others were really bad! The exhibition is somewhat basic, a lot of information is presented just in Uzbek, and in general it feels like someone was really trying, but didn't have the materials and the talent to make it nice. I would lower the ticket price twice and allow pictures for free to make it worth visiting.
