Hmmm... This place could be so much more.. I imagine 20 years ago it absolutely was a Palace. Sadly now its a little run down, uncared for and very very dated. General maintenance and upkeep seems to be totally lacking. The whole building is peeling, showing damp and water intrusion, visually it just looks sad. Our shower head was 90% blocked... I had to spend 20 mins unblocking this, stains in the bath, mouldy grout, old shower curtain, damaged toilet seat and decor from the 70s. The room would have actually been quite nice if it didn't feel like your grandparents house, dated, dreary and dull. Balcony was a great size and a very good city views but tatty..splashed with paint, cladding missing, tiles broken and a noisy, leaking A/c unit. Like several in the room - outside light/bulb broken. Same for fridge/freezer. There's a small kitchen but no stove, only a microwave and nothing to cook with in terms of utensils etc. Breakfast is a bit of a throwaway... very small portion... about 8 dishes to choose from. Instant coffee.. no milk to be seen... no fruit juice. We skipped it twice. Staff were polite, happy and helpful, room was refreshed daily but bedding not changed in 4 nights. Not cheap at 1m vnd per night and I've had way better...
Read moreMy 2 friends (and colleagues) and I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights – during our first time in Hanoi. Although this hotel is a little distance from the Old Quarter, we loved everything about this hotel – but most especially appreciated the exceptionally warm, gentle, helpful staff during our stay here! |Phoung and Ha and the various gentlemen at the front desk deserve special mention here – for helping us with everything we could want. From exchanging currency, to arranging for transportation for us, to answering our many questions (about street-dancing sites and shopping for specific Korean biscuits).|Also, thank you to the lovely ladies who served us breakfast – including the best-ever grilled cheese sandwiches - every morning. |SIDE NOTE: One of my very favourite things about Vietnam is its culture of street dancing. When I was gushing over this with Phoung and Ha, Ha let me know of another place by the lake where locals dance in the square every week day. Needless to say, that’s where I went...
