We loved our garden tour and cooking class at Caman Village with Thao. She was an excellent tour guide and garden and cooking instructor. She kindly explained various plants and their traditional uses in Vietnamese culture and let us select kumquat fruit, peppermint, spearmint, cinnamon basil, mustard greens, passion fruit and butterfly pea flowers for our cooking class. We started by making a delicious iced tea with butterfly pea flower, kumquat and peppermint. As we sipped out ice tea, Thao taught us how to make spring rolls. Everything was fresh and fun. We made out own fish sauce for dipping the spring rolls, Vietnamese crepes, and green papaya salad. It was so much delicious food and all of my questions were answered very carefully and thoughtfully. I would highly recommend coming to this beautiful garden where you can learn about Vietnamese culture and cuisine and get a delicious organic meal. I am also excited because the kind people at Caman Village will email us all the recipes so I can make these delicious meals for my...
Read moreI had a very enjoyable and informative cooking class here with Thao. I loved going around the garden first and Thao pointed out the different herbs, vegetables and fruits and how the Vietnamese use them in cooking and medicine. She then showed me how to make iced tea, fresh spring rolls, banh xeo and braised pork with papaya salad. She was such a good teacher and so knowledgeable. They also send you an email with the recipes so you can create it back home which is so kind. Thank you so much Thao !
One thing to note for solo travellers - I didn’t realise the vibe here is more private class and so I was alone. If you’re looking for something social and a chance to meet other travellers, this may not be the cooking class for you. I can see it being perfect for couples, families or small groups. Not to say I didn’t love my private class with Thao, just something to...
Read moreIncredible experience! We visited the garden to have a look and then learnt about their cooking class and booked in for the next morning. Thao and the team were wonderful hosts and we made many tasty foods and drinks. Thao had so much knowledge about the garden, ingredients and different ways to use each of the things in the garden. She answered all our questions and recommended places for us to look for fresh fruit in town and also helped us understand how to grow and pick the herbs and vegetables we were interested in. It was also a really nice break from the heat to be in the garden and to make and eat food with a beautiful view. I cannot recommend this experience enough. It was just the two of us and our hosts and we got to do a lot of the cooking and the team at Caman had also already pre-chopped, mixed and prepared a lot of the ingredients for us...
