Location:
The hotel is in a good location for being close to lots of sights (walking distance to many). There are several good and affordable restaurant options within walking distance of the hotel. We found this to be one of the best positive of the hotel location. Because it is located close to the business center, many restaurants offer very reasonable lunch specials that were delicious. On the contrary, when we found ourselves in other locations (like Palermo or Recolata, prices at restaurants were significantly higher. The bus stop (very easy to use) is a five minute walk. Lots of shopping within a five minute walk.
Service:
Honestly, the staff at CasaCalma is some of the best I've ever had anywhere... including the Four Seasons! They are so nice, helpful, and completely at your service. Everyone at the front desk speaks beautiful english, but are also willing to let you practice your spanish. They had great suggestions for restaurants, tours, sights, even travel to other destinations. When something didn't go well (like our toilet keep running), they fixed it immediately and then left a complimentary bottle of wine for the trouble. The staff is the hotels greatest asset. They make you feel so at home and help with absolutely anything you need. For any negatives with the hotel, the quality of the staff more than compensates.
Rooms:
Rooms were comfortable, bright and light, with a good mattress, plenty of storage to unpack, and a really nice jacuzzi tub. We opted for the deluxe room with the sauna. We used it a few times and it was fine. If I go back, I would probably just opt for a standard room because the sauna is the only difference. Rooms was very sound proof. Heating and cooling worked well. Basically, no complaints.
Breakfast:
We opted for the room price with the breakfast included. Breakfast was overall very good with great service. Hot items like eggs and omelets are made to order and included in the price. Coffee drinks (including the cappuccino and espresso machine) are included as well. In addition, they have yogurt, lots of pastries, bread items, some fruit/nuts, etc. Plenty of options to choose from and everything is presented nicely and always well stocked. Breakfast area was never too crowed and the hours were open from 7-11am. If you do not opt for the breakfast included, each item is priced individually and it becomes a bit of a hassle. I would recommend either purchasing the room price with breakfast included, or just going out for breakfast on your own.
Overall, CasaCalma was one of the best experiences we had in our 10 day stay in Argentina. If we ever go back, I would DEFINITELY stay here again! Thanks to all the staff for all of their help and service! We appreciate it so much!
Final note: when leaving Argentina, DO NOT expect to be able to change argentinian pesos back to USD. We are stuck with argentinian pesos that we cannot change back ANYWHERE. So, plan accordingly and don't come back with any pesos. Wish we...
Read moreCasaCalma is a gem, really. We travel a lot and have been to many different hotels, but this one is clearly one of the best. It is a small hotel with nine floors with each two rooms. We had a room in the 9th floor with jaccuzzi, a huge (and super comfy) bed, a large shower, a nespresso coffee machine and plenty of space. Shampoo, conditioner, soap and body lotion are provided for free (in large, refillable bottles) and of high quality. The jaccuzzi comes with bath salt. Service was outstanding - we arrived early in the morning, way before check-in time at 3 pm, and the hotel staff went out of their way to get our room ready by noon, keeping our luggage until then, of course. We were given a map and lots of recommendations, a list of tango shows (out of which we booked one for the 2nd night), another list with restaurant recommendations (and an additional one for vegetarians, upon my request) and one with recommended day trips. Besides, there is a “DVD menu” with a huge list of DVDs that are available for free. Hotel staff booked the tango show for us (which includes pick up/drop of from the hotel) and offered help with restaurant reservations or any other support. In our room, we found a little note that a yoga mat will be provided upon request, which I made use of - what a great idea! Every night, we received a hand written weather forecast for the next day - and any confirmation, i.e. for the tango show, was provided in form of a personal, printed message. Little touches, but that’s what makes the difference. The location is very convenient, there are lots of attractions, restaurants, bars and cafes in walking distance. Breakfast would have been available, also as room service, but we rather started our day early and thus did not make use...
Read moreI thought about giving a 4 star review which would suit the hotel just fine but couldn't do it. Here's why: The hotel itself is quaint; it's small yet has large rooms for its layout. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and they include a jacuzzi and a massaging shower. We had a Nespresso machine as well as a partially stocked minibar; all of which were inexpensive. The common area in the ground floor is small and is were you'll be having breakfast. Said breakfast is pretty good but not great.
Aside from their breakfast menu, I found that the rooms could use a little upgrading themselves. The TVs are definitely a couple of generations too old, the pillows were not the most comfortable, the air-conditioning was a little aggressive but effective and our shower had pressure issues when you used cooler water. The toilet is a glass door away from the room so there is no real acoustic privacy but my biggest gripe was the lack of power outlets - Nowadays people travel with several gadgets so having only a couple of available outlets was an issue.
Having said all of that, the main reason for my 5-star review is the staff. They were incredible cordial and willing to help. I asked for advice and recommendations on more than one occasion and they went above and beyond each and every time. The owner also seemed glad to help whenever it was needed. All in all, they made our stay very satisfying and an...
