Peppers high ratings seem to be based off of a lot of one night or weekend stays. Yeah every hotel is great for one night - Stay longer and you'll find a negligent staff and deteriorating building.
I generally expect a clean room, privacy, and my safety when staying at a hotel, and I don't think that makes me an unreasonable person. I had a few major incidents involving all three of these things while I was there, and the uncaring attitude and incompetence of the staff was totally unacceptable of a hotel of this quality. If you have an issue, any issue at all, be prepared for the staff at Peppers to completely ignore you. I had to fight my way to getting any acknowledgement, and it was only after numerous complaints that finally made it to the regional and general manager that any of it was properly acknowledged and rectified. The staff here are an embarrassment, and I suggest completely bypassing the front desk and just ask for the manager. Also be aware that these units are owned by private owners, and the Peppers staff only maintains them. This means that Peppers will gladly book you in a room that might need a carpet replaced, and then actually have the audacity to ask you to take all your things off the floor so they can replace the carpet. This happened to me, and the staff assured me that I would come back to a clean room complete with air fresheners. I came back to a room that smelled like glue (no air fresheners), carpet pieces everywhere and no sheets on my bed. Super top notch service!
In addition to the major incidents, there were plenty of smaller ones that normally I'd ignore. However.. given my horrid experience, I will also say that after the cleaning staff came through I always had to double check my room to make sure I had toilet paper, the shower head wasn't pointed so that it would spray me in the face, and cleaning supplies weren't left in my room. I had a personal item disappear one day after my room was cleaned, which was very upsetting. It was mysteriously never found. The staff also has a habit of knocking then immediately using their key card to try to open the door. It happened to me and someone else I knew. I HIGHLY recommend using the deadbolt to ensure privacy and to keep staff out!
Literally the only thing Peppers has going for it, is it is located a block from a really beautiful beach and really great restaurants. The rooms are nice enough but I heard complaints of mold, roaches and run down rooms, mostly in tower 1. The dishwasher doesn't actually clean anything, and also doesn't dry properly. The washer dryer takes FOREVER to do a single load. The internet quality is poor. The hallways almost always smell like trash. And I was not alone in any of my complaints, especially about the staff - I frequently heard from others I knew staying there that they were totally unresponsive.
Unfortunately I was REALLY excited to stay at Peppers and it turned out to be the worst hotel experience I have ever had. Everything that happened was not something that ever should of transpired, at any hotel of any quality level. I tried to be understanding and wanted to let the small things go, but by the end I got SO tired of the whole situation that I just wanted to get out of there. It could be that I'm American and I actually expect a 5 star hotel to BE 5 star quality..but given their attitude about how great they think their hotel is, I think Peppers has ALOT to learn about decent service and quality. I suggest a staff trip to Las Vegas - any hotel there would be leagues above Peppers.
I would never stay here again, never recommend it and never praise it. It was a horrifying experience. Save your money and...
Read moreIf you book direct, you may come across a bargain as I found out. As a local that hasn't stayed at this property before or any of the Peppers properties this was my introduction, staying at Peppers Broadbeach for 3nights, 4 days and what a bargain I received on their website. At the time of booking for the 3 nights came to $549. You may not think this is a bargin but when you check out their nightly rate you will see what I mean. Also if you dont ask you dont know, yep, when I finished my last meeting I went to reception and asked them if there was any chance of relocating to a higher floor. Unfortunately, they were apparently fully booked out, on a Tuesday! I think this was questionable considering when I went across the road to a friend's apartment at Ultiqua Peppers looked fairly empty judging by the ratio of lights on and off in both towers. Such is life i Guess. But yeah the 3rd floor wasn't cutting it for me, considering I was on the 20 floor at the Meriton Suites and the 32nd floor at Ultiqua which had absolutely stunning coastline views, yeah my expectations were high especiallyfor this 5 Star property with a goos reputation. Lucky I made the most of the facilities at the property as well as the fantastic dining options also the beautiful beach minutes walk away from this properties central location. Down side low floor, upside the facilities, amazing dining options available, the beach, transportation, parking was easy enough even though its a bit of a maze, I've had better customer service from other surrounding properties but it is what it is I guess whether your a local or visitor who have travelled outside of the Gold Coast, this is why we are able to express our opinions through reviews online and make the most of the free time available while we are waiting for the mechanic to finish the cars roadworthy. Would I recommend this property for sure especially if your getting a good deal on your room rate my suggestion would be to mention that you would like to request a high floor and if it is available for the period of time when you book I am sure the staff will do what they can to accommodate your request. So enjoy your breakaway at the...
Read moreWe were here in GG for a business conference with all of our staff And were going to book at the casino. I thought it would be a good idea to try apartments.
We chose Peppers because of the location, it looked great on the Internet had reasonable reviews and the pricing at $300 a night was within the company budget.
The check foyer is lovely there are two towers some of the staff stayed in tower 2 we stayed in Tower one.
Check in was quick efficient and easy, the apartments are roomy and clean with all the amenities you would need plus a lovely balcony we had an oceanview, there is a washing machine, dryer, coffee machine, vacuum cleaner, iron office desk and microwave.
Plus there is ducted air conditioning which is much better than regular air conditioning.
The beds were comfy and the bathroom was a decent size the usual products were in the bathroom.
There is a large bath in the bathroom however the shower is very small and the door only goes one way which is awkward.
Walk in wardrobe does not have a lot of space to hang your clothes if you are staying there for as long as we were which was a week.
Also in Tower one the desk is not manned all the time I went down and asked for sugar because no one had answered the phone so I actually went down to ask for sugar and was told housekeeping would bring it they never did.
You also have to empty your own rubbish which isn’t really a big deal trying to find out where to put it though was!
The location was very quiet
The pool area, the hot tub, the daybeds the tranquillity garden the steam and sauna room are all lovely and not too busy so you can really sit down and read a book and Zen out.
I would recommend these apartments and we would definitely stay here again if the...
