Meriton is our preferred accommodation following our previous trips to the Gold Coast and Melbourne. My reviews for the Meriton chain, in the past, have been 5 star but unfortunately this visit was very disappointing. We arrived on Sunday and found a few issues immediately which we brought to the attention of Cian the following day. He was very apologetic, acknowledging that our complaints were justified and would be rectified. Nothing happened! Over the next couple of days we found more reasons to complain. This unit was dirty. 1. The bathroom floor was disgusting. There was a Cellophane wrapper on the floor and the floor was sticky. I dropped my pants on the floor while getting dressed and this is just the dust from a SECOND on the floor. 2. Crumbs on the lounge. 3. Tissue box empty on arrival and no spare. 4. We went to lay a pair of socks on the window sill in the bedroom and it was too dirty to do so. 5. The laundry floor ..... well I don't know exactly what the MASS beside the washing machine was.....I take it as being a extremely large lump of lint, fluff and debris from the dryer. 6. Washing machine filter was not cleaned. As we were there for 4 days we had a mini service on day 3. Fresh towels, bathmat, hand towel and tissues box was placed on the dining room table but the used towels etc were left in the bathroom. After our stay I read the reviews out of interest and found that the mention of dirty rooms was becoming more prevalent. I also read the comments regarding the slow lifts and inconvenience of the renovations. Yes, these were noted, however they did not have any bearing on our stay. We understand that some inconvenience has to occur in these situations. We had an ocean view one bedroom apartment on the 25th floor and were very impressed with our location and view. The room was quiet considering the number of guest accommodated on the floor. The Meriton Broadbeach is a 5 min walk to the light rail and just across the road from The Star Casino. Pacific Fair Shopping Centre is under a 10 min walk. Car parking underneath was a reasonable cost per day and easily accessed from the foyer. Kitchen was well equipped for our needs.

Service at reception was great, staff were friendly, nothing to complain. Location is great. No photos of the room because you can view them from the website but i’ll tell you what is true of the room condition. 1. TOO dirty. They’ve tried to modernise the room, but the bathroom is so old, and that’s fine, except that everywhere was dusty and dirty, there were poo stains in the toilet bowl. The floors were so dirty, I had to clean the floor myself (See attached for the state of the cloth I used). When we entered the room, it just smelt like BLEACH. my son also developed rashes during the stay. the dust behind the TV unit and some corners were horrendous. 2. You could hardly see anything on the remote control, making it so hard to navigate the TV, no instructions as to how we can use chrome cast until I called the reception (again, reception is friendly and swift to help). might just be me but isn’t it basic to have a remote control with buttons that aren’t faded? 3. Temperature of the water was so hard to control. It made showering a very sad experience. 4. renovation sounds as early as 7ish in the morning on a Saturday. 5. housekeeping barged in at 9.47am, after knocking lightly a couple of times. I was about to answer the door when she just came in without asking. would have appreciated if she asked. I understand the renovation was stated on the website, but surely 400++ is too much for a room that’s not done up well too?? not 5 stars in our opinion.

Sad to say the stay turned sour as soon as we went to check in , as the hotel does not accept digital payment. If you dont have the physical card on you then you cant use any digital kind to pay for the stay. Even if you have transferred your card to your digital wallet i.e. your Phone, if you dont have the card on you then its useless currency. We were not impressed. Next the room , and walking to the balcony it was clear no one had been out there. On the outdoor furniture was a pile of used paper towel , and then a cheesel on the ground in front of the sliding door as I was about to go back inside. Spider webs on the glass balustrading also. Not cleaned at all. The TV in the lounge area had been wiped with a wet cloth, leaving the streaks to dry across the whole screen. In the bathroom a big blob of what appeared to be creme cleaner (jiff) was on the door under the basin. Then i went to pour my long neck stubby of beer into a glass, only to find there was no glass suitable for such drink, so i had to use a whisky type glass. And lastly, no USB sockets anywhere. None. You should really fix that one. Not what I expect from a 5 star rated Hotel. And yes, the lifts are slow, and also appears the 1000kg rating is off, as when 7 people attempted to use the lift at one time the lift said it was overloaded. Nah, I dont think so. No, these issues were not mentioned to staff at the time, they are mentioned here.

So noisy!!!! Could not sleep!!!!

I’m so unhappy with my stay here. Very disappointing. I booked myself my first night away from my toddler in 2.5 years while he stayed at home with his Dad. I wanted to rest and relax. This hotel is located on one of the busiest intersections on all of the Gold Coast and not only will the street noise keep you awake until well into the early hours of the morning, but so will The Atrium Bar at the Casino which is blasting loud music from 8pm till midnight or later. I'm staying on the 20th floor, I specifically phoned ahead before arrival explaining that I’m a light sleeper and was looking for a quiet room, and even on the 20th floor, it honestly sounds like I’m sleeping beside the road in a tent (yes it’s that loud)!!! I’m disappointed that it wasn’t explained to me that I was on the highway side facing all the road noise after I requested a quiet room.

Also, the hotel is under MAJOR reconstruction. On the website when booking, there is small notice that says the Lobby is undergoing an “update”, this is a massive understatement of what’s actually happening. There is loud construction noise all day. The wait for the elevators is sometimes 15 to 20 minutes (or at least it was for me on Friday night - at one point I had to walk 20 flights of stairs because I couldn’t get down from my room, every time the lift arrived it was full and when I tried to get in it was overloading, I had no choice but to take the stairs). To even get to the elevators you have to wind your way through messy, unsightly construction work which is a very long walk from the “makeshift” lobby area they’ve put together. When calling reception for towels I waited more than 20 mins and ended up hanging up. When requesting to switch to a quieter room I waited in the lobby for about 45 mins for somebody to help me - it was such a long long line (even with 6 staff on the front desk), and there was no spare room for them to even move me into so I basically didn’t sleep the entire weekend.

I will say that Madison, the supervisor on duty was very sweet and apologetic, even though nothing could be done to help resolve my concerns.

I do feel very disappointed. This is most certainly not worth $300 a night. Not even $100 a night. I’d avoid staying her during the construction and once that’s over, I’d never ever ever recommend staying on the highway side of the hotel - unless you sleep like a log, you’ll just end up exhausted and sleep...

Stayed at the Meriton Broadbeach for 8 nights as a long term guest. This hotel is conveniently located on the Gold Coast Highway in Broadbeach. It is right in between Broadbeach South and Broadbeach North tram stops - a quick five minute walk to either. The hotel has great amenities with a gym, indoor pool, and outdoor pool, along with oversized loungers in the courtyard and complimentary bike rentals available to guests. In addition to a kitchen, rooms have a washing machine and dryer which is super convenient. The rooms are nicely appointed and the bed is comfortable. The problem I had was cleanliness: it was quite dusty with debris on the floor, food particles in the fridge and on the kitchen plates and utensils, towels with brown, black and red marks, and a browning / molding bathroom shower. For a five star hotel these are things that need to be addressed. A true five star like a Sofitel, Four Seasons, etc. do not have these issues. The worst part however was opening the dishwasher after a cycle to put the clean dishes away and seeing COCKROACHES climbing all over the the clean plates. This means there are roaches in the pipes in the building? How else would they have gotten inside the dishwasher. This is a major health concern as people use the dishes thinking they are clean but now are at risk due to cockroaches. Evidently after that I had to wash everything by hand. Front desk was alerted to the situation and came to spray while I was out of the room apparently. I did not see the roaches again but I also did not use the dishwasher again. While staff are friendly they did not offer to move me or provide any compensation, saying they have a pest management process in place and sometimes it happens. Just keep that in mind while booking here. If it wasn’t for the cockroaches I would probably stay again, but next time I am in town I will be looking elsewhere...
