My teenage daughter and I visited The Langham Gold Coast for the first time last week, travelling from NSW. This Instagram worthy hotel and piqued my interest since it's opening, and as an ex-travel writer from pre-covid days I had high expectations for the brand, as I have been a frequent guest at both Sydney and Melbourne (where I can attest the service in Sydney has always been impeccable). I'll begin with the positives because there were many. The overall hygiene and cleanliness of the hotel is outstanding. The peace and serenity is as you would wish any resort based escape to feel. Like an oasis, despite an event being run in The Palm court, and the hotel seemed as though it was very full (judging by breakfast the following morning in Akoya), and yet it it never felt crowded, or had people "standing around". It felt as though you were in your own bliss bubble. Service from the point of arrival with the porter and reception staff (particularly Jeanette) was professional, efficient and without fault. The lovely lady (slightly more mature) in the Sunny side cafe went above and beyond with service, and is a credit to the hotel. She offered to make me coffee even after she had cleaned the machine and closed, (something i certainly did not expect). We later saw her on the following day around the hotel and she very happily took photos around the phone booth of us, and nothing was to difficult for her. Regarding the negatives, sadly there are 4 fairly memorable negatives that left a hole in the area of hospitality. The first began as I am a traveler that likes to pre-pay my stay before I arrive. I contacted the hotel directly 4 days prior to arrival and was assured I'd have my card debited within 15 minutes. Perhaps it seems pedantic, but as a frequent traveller who has had my card hacked serval times I now travel with one where I manually transfer funds onto the card only when a transaction is about to happen, so has to limit the amount of funds an outside threat may have to access these. After approximately 3 hours of me seeing the funds still sitting there I contacted the reservations team again (the same man answered), and apologised conceeding, "I am so sorry, I actually got stuck with something, and then forgot". I was not mad, upset or anything, if anything I was just relieved that I'd called back, because he had actually forgotten. That's okay, I know what it is to get sidetracked, the busy was not the issue, it was the pattern of having to chase people to do what they had promised me that later became tiresome.Fast forward to our stay, everything is going wonderfully, until my daughter puts her hand in our plush and clean in-room bathrobes, only to pull out someone else's "dirty thong". And when I say dirty, I genuinely mean DIRTY. Again, we were in our bliss bubble and were not going to saying anything, until at checkout we were asked how our stay was, and I casually mentioned maybe as feedback get the cleaners to the check the pockets of the robes etc. The lovely Jeanette at reception was horrified as she aid, "this is actually disgusting and yes I will make a note of that and pass it on to housekeeping". At that point she offered to credit us for 1 x adult out of the 2 persons breakfasts that we'd had. 3 days later i check my credit card and see that we had been credited as promised, but then someone else had gone back in and charged us a second time for the breakfast, So effectively we were charged twice. Lastly, if you expect inroom welcome treats, don't. It's just a bottle of water these days, odd for a 5 star hotel. Although I'm now hearing some people receive them , others didn't. So I'm confused if this is yet another housekeeping faux pas. Lost 1 star only bc service elements were too inconsistent with things that matter, like billing...
Read moreWe have just completed an incredibly luxurious seven-night stay at The Langham.
Through my travels, I’ve learned that a five-star hotel doesn’t always guarantee a five-star experience. However, The Langham ticks all the boxes. Its reputation truly shines, and its exceptional hospitality is reflected in its people.
All five-star…
Location – The hotel is in a prime spot. A beautiful 15-minute walk along the beach boardwalk in one direction takes you to Surfers Paradise, while the other way leads to Broadbeach. Best of all, you’re just steps away from the beach.
Rooms – They have everything you could possibly need or want. The beds and pillows were just right, and the showers and baths were perfect. I loved that you could use both the handheld shower hose and the rain shower at the same time— even taking a shower felt like a pampering experience! If you get a room with a bathtub, the tub is spotlessly clean and a great size. If your budget allows, I highly recommend upgrading to one of the residences—they are absolutely stunning! Whether you choose an ocean or hinterland view, both are beautiful.
Cleanliness – A five-star rating doesn’t always mean immaculate cleanliness, but at The Langham, it certainly does. The bathrooms, including the bathtubs (which I’m usually hesitant to use in hotels), were spotless. I walked past a room being cleaned and noticed the staff were even lifting the lounge cushions and ensuring everything was thoroughly refreshed. Housekeeping does an outstanding job.
Facilities – Every facility you could think of is available. The outdoor pool, with its swim-up bar, is absolutely divine. Even on a busy weekend, there were plenty of lounge chairs, so finding a nice spot to relax was never an issue. The sandy shallow pool area for kids was a great touch. I cannot fault the outdoor pool area—it’s perfect!
One thing that is essential for me and might be for other guests is a well-heated indoor pool. While it’s not always a necessity in Queensland, we had unfortunate weather, so the water wasn’t warm enough to have a daily swim which I was so looking forward to However, when I raised this with the in-house managers, they went out of their way to check and adjust the temperature, doing everything they could to make us comfortable. Their dedication and willingness to go above and beyond did not go unnoticed or unappreciated.
Though we didn’t use it, the gym was impressively large and well-equipped, with a fantastic view. There was also a room where you could access virtual workout classes—just press a button and select your session. We also walked past the kids’ club, which looked fantastic.
Whether you want to do nothing or everything, The Langham has it all.
Spa – The spa experience was incredibly calm and relaxing, tailored exactly to what we needed. The pampering begins even before your treatment and continues afterward. If you’re planning a weekend visit, be sure to book in advance—otherwise, you won’t get in.
Service – Throughout our entire stay, not a single staff member passed us without a warm smile and greeting. The hospitality here is second to none. A special shout-out to Jake and Jeanette, who went out of their way to make our experience memorable.
The Langham Gold Coast and its staff uphold their five-star reputation effortlessly. Even when we encountered the issue with the pool temperature, Jake and Jeanette in hotel management didn’t jiust Dismiss it Instead, they acknowledged our concern and made a genuine effort to help, which speaks volumes about their commitment to guest satisfaction. These efforts don’t seem forced or difficult for the staff and management—they appear genuinely invested and caring toward their guests. A special shout-out to Jake and Jeanette—excellent leadership and great examples for...
Read moreFamous Langham luxury and service and on the beach! My husband and I stayed for six nights in a king ocean view room (room 1802) in the last week of August. The room was a good size, the ocean views were fantastic, to hear the sea and smell the salt air was so relaxing. The bathroom is huge, the hanging space for your clothes is in there and there’s not a lot. We managed but I wouldn’t want to be staying for much longer than a week in that same size room. The shower was hand held and very good. Lots of space and room to put your own toiletries plus shampoo etc in bottles on the wall supplied by the hotel. The bath was big enough for my husband to soak in and he’s over six and a half feet tall. I thought it was too big really. The whole bathroom was almost as large as the rooms in other hotels. I would have preferred a smaller bath (or no bath) and some cupboards, a bigger living area and a bigger room fridge. But it certainly conveys the image of luxury. We had an esky and refilled with ice every few days as the fridge was very small. The bed was firm but we slept well and were surprised because it did feel like it might be too hard but it was good. Inside there was a table, a chair and a small sofa and on the balcony there was a small table and large padded chair probably big enough for two small people snuggled up. The blockout curtains and sheers opened separately by the press of a button (pretty cool). Parking was free and easy. If you do Uber anywhere it’s about a$10 fare to the many restaurants in the main Broadbeach precinct and a little more to the Casino and Pacific Fair shopping centre. The lifts were plentiful and quick. Unfortunately for various reasons we couldn’t swim this trip, but the mineral indoor pool was huge and looked so inviting. The outside pools are, as reported by others, in a wind tunnel. If only an architect was involved in the design (hee hee!) but there were hardy souls there daily and of course, kids don’t care. I loved that they had sand around some of the pool area, so much fun for the little ones. Literally a one minute walk and you’re on the beach. There’s a shower and tap at the gate to wash on your return. The buffet breakfast was one of the best, if not the best, that we’ve had. My favourite dish was the spicy baked beans and the potato rosti (they change the potato daily, hash browns, gems etc). There is a made-to-order egg station and the chef, Rue, cooked the best omelettes and poached eggs. They even had fresh honeycomb which was so delicious and they sell it in their coffee shop. I bought some as gifts. I had a foot treatment at the Chuan spa and was looked after very capably by Tamlyn. I thoroughly recommend the Feet Retreat for sore, tired soles! Special mention to Luahna Miller in reservations, her kindness and compassion was next level, to Jasmine in the concierge area and Tara in the buffet breakfast - both lovely ladies who work hard and try and make your stay special - thank...
