Mixed feelings.||The location is 5 star and the view is one of the best we have seen, stunning scenery, lake and Mountain View and a must visit for all sound of music fans. Some beautiful and interesting rooms including the ballroom where you take breakfast, which was nice, and an outside balcony to enjoy. Just wonderful! ||But we felt mislead and shortchanged by the accommodation. We booked a premium double room in the Meierhof building and this âpremium accommodationâ fell very short of expectations. ||We sent the following to management during the evening of our stay to raise our concerns directly with them but they did not have the courtesy of a response or any attempt to interact to discuss our concerns before we left. Good management should always intercede at the earliest time to discuss and resolve issues as they occur rather than leave guests disappointed with their experience. ||It read- ||We are currently staying in room 104 and just wanted to let you know our disappointment with the room. It feels grey and soulless. The floor is scratched and marked and lacks any atmosphere or opulence compared to the outside views. The furniture looks like itâs cheap ikea flat packed. No style or thought has been put into the decor. Blank gloomy walls with no wall hanging or soft furnishings. We do not consider it value for money and liken the room to a 2 star box standard room worth ÂŁ60.00 a night or even a dormitory in a hostel. Such a shame as this was a special trip to celebrate my wifeâs birthday which although mentioned twice to you, was not acknowledged in any way. Thought you would rather hear this from us in a private message rather than a damming review on trip advisor. It does not meet the standard expected when you pay for a premium accommodation. There was nowhere to stand the kettle to boil it apart from on the floor and not even a welcome drink offered on arrival. Felt mislead by your advertising. I hope this is valuable feedback that you take urgent action on so not to disappoint other guests. ||The only saving grace was the reception team who gave us a very warm welcome on arrival. ||As we left my wife was presented with a cuddly toy and a bottle of wine, I assume on the basis the above was read? but no interaction from any manager which was very disappointing. We left out of our message that the duvet was stained and the orchid in the room was almost dead as not been watered. ||We did pay for a historical guide of the house which was excellent and took advantage of free bike hire which we enjoyed. ||Left feeling disappointed when really it could have all been amazing. ||Top tip - no restaurant of an evening so plan for this. ||Footnote - we did eventually receive a rather bland response from the hotel which read -||We are very sorry to hear about your unpleasent hotel stay experience. ||Regarding the room design we try to keep it simple due to that everyone has a different preference in room decorating. ||We value your feedback and will forward it. ||Kind regards, |reception||Our advice enjoy the view and book a guided tour for 26 euros which gives you access to the whole area for as long as you want and donât bother booking a...
Read moreWhere to start?? First of all, the setting of the hotel complex is rather pleasant and the business is cashing in on the association with âThe Sound of Musicâ. The rooms within the palace must be of a better standard than those located in the âMeierhofâ building where I had the misfortune of staying for one night. The block gives off prison block vibes, old tatty carpets, battered walls and little to no decoration, giving it very stark and unwelcoming vibes. When I checked into my room I discovered that the floors were absolutely filthy with one particular area in front of the bed standing out with hairs and dirt stuck to the floor. I immediately reported this to the person behind the reception desk who was mildly disinterested and sent someone up to let me deal with this by myself. A cleaner and building maintenance person turned up and couldnât really see the problem (the extremely low standards of cleanliness and upkeep of the building are evident everywhere) and the cleaner proceeded to quickly mop the floor from the bed out of the room and then said âok??â. At this point I just needed to get on with my day but when I returned to my room later that night I inspected everything a bit closer and found the entire floor absolutely filthy with accumulated dirt and smears everywhere. The bathroom floor was particularly disgusting. I put my shoes on to move around the room. The room furnishings were in acceptable condition bar the stained and marked walls and torn curtains. The next morning after I took a shower I used to bath mat to give the floor a quick mop with my foot after I got dressed and was not astounded to find the mat absolutely stained with filth and dirt.
I went for breakfast in the adjacent palace which was great. Very nice setting and great service but this did not make up for the condition of the room.
Upon checkout I spoke to a different receptionist and showed them the photos I took. They were very apologetic and went to speak to the manager who was within sight with their back turned to us but would not come out to deal with the situation themselves but let the receptionist take the flack. I was offered a 25euro discount on the 175euro room rate which I accepted as I wasnât looking for a freebie but I can safely say that I will never...
Read moreSchloss Leopoldskron is undeniably stunning in terms of scenery, architecture, and its connection to The Sound of Music. Itâs truly a one-of-a-kind location that feels magical at first glance. However, our experience staying here was far from ideal.
Be cautious when booking a room. Most online platforms, like Expedia, show pictures of the mansion, leading you to believe youâll be staying there. However, upon arrival, after waiting over 30 minutes in a lobby that doesnât resemble a traditional lobby, we were taken to a room in the other building where the lobby is located. This building had a stark, unappealing atmosphereâthink hospital in a war zone. The hallways, stairs, and the room itself were small, poorly maintained, and completely disconnected from the charm of the mansion. My children were unsettled when they saw the room.
After reviewing my reservation and pictures, I spoke with the manager, who admitted the images were misleading. While they eventually offered to move us to the mansion, we had to pay several hundred Euros extra. They gave us a mere âŹ20 discount because the elevator in the mansion wasnât working. While the room in the mansion was beautiful, it was uncomfortably warm, and the customer service remained poor. We had to climb multiple flights of stairs to reach the room, which was challenging.
On a positive note, the scenery around the property is breathtaking. The restaurant in the mansion served a good breakfast buffet, and dining on the balcony was delightful. However, the overall experience didnât justify the high cost, poor service, and misleading booking process.
In summary, I donât recommend staying at Schloss Leopoldskron, whether in the mansion or the annex. However, the site is a must-visit for its beauty and history. Consider coming as part of a tour or visiting on your own. Thereâs a nice restaurant on the other side of the lake with views of the mansion, and a waterpark nearby is within walking distance. To visit Salzburgâs city center, youâll need to drive...
