Mixed feelings.||The location is 5 star and the view is one of the best we have seen, stunning scenery, lake and Mountain View and a must visit for all sound of music fans. Some beautiful and interesting rooms including the ballroom where you take breakfast, which was nice, and an outside balcony to enjoy. Just wonderful! ||But we felt mislead and shortchanged by the accommodation. We booked a premium double room in the Meierhof building and this “premium accommodation” fell very short of expectations. ||We sent the following to management during the evening of our stay to raise our concerns directly with them but they did not have the courtesy of a response or any attempt to interact to discuss our concerns before we left. Good management should always intercede at the earliest time to discuss and resolve issues as they occur rather than leave guests disappointed with their experience. ||It read- ||We are currently staying in room 104 and just wanted to let you know our disappointment with the room. It feels grey and soulless. The floor is scratched and marked and lacks any atmosphere or opulence compared to the outside views. The furniture looks like it’s cheap ikea flat packed. No style or thought has been put into the decor. Blank gloomy walls with no wall hanging or soft furnishings. We do not consider it value for money and liken the room to a 2 star box standard room worth £60.00 a night or even a dormitory in a hostel. Such a shame as this was a special trip to celebrate my wife’s birthday which although mentioned twice to you, was not acknowledged in any way. Thought you would rather hear this from us in a private message rather than a damming review on trip advisor. It does not meet the standard expected when you pay for a premium accommodation. There was nowhere to stand the kettle to boil it apart from on the floor and not even a welcome drink offered on arrival. Felt mislead by your advertising. I hope this is valuable feedback that you take urgent action on so not to disappoint other guests. ||The only saving grace was the reception team who gave us a very warm welcome on arrival. ||As we left my wife was presented with a cuddly toy and a bottle of wine, I assume on the basis the above was read? but no interaction from any manager which was very disappointing. We left out of our message that the duvet was stained and the orchid in the room was almost dead as not been watered. ||We did pay for a historical guide of the house which was excellent and took advantage of free bike hire which we enjoyed. ||Left feeling disappointed when really it could have all been amazing. ||Top tip - no restaurant of an evening so plan for this. ||Footnote - we did eventually receive a rather bland response from the hotel which read -||We are very sorry to hear about your unpleasent hotel stay experience. ||Regarding the room design we try to keep it simple due to that everyone has a different preference in room decorating. ||We value your feedback and will forward it. ||Kind regards, |reception||Our advice enjoy the view and book a guided tour for 26 euros which gives you access to the whole area for as long as you want and don’t bother booking a...

Where to start?? First of all, the setting of the hotel complex is rather pleasant and the business is cashing in on the association with ‘The Sound of Music’. The rooms within the palace must be of a better standard than those located in the ‘Meierhof’ building where I had the misfortune of staying for one night. The block gives off prison block vibes, old tatty carpets, battered walls and little to no decoration, giving it very stark and unwelcoming vibes. When I checked into my room I discovered that the floors were absolutely filthy with one particular area in front of the bed standing out with hairs and dirt stuck to the floor. I immediately reported this to the person behind the reception desk who was mildly disinterested and sent someone up to let me deal with this by myself. A cleaner and building maintenance person turned up and couldn’t really see the problem (the extremely low standards of cleanliness and upkeep of the building are evident everywhere) and the cleaner proceeded to quickly mop the floor from the bed out of the room and then said ‘ok??’. At this point I just needed to get on with my day but when I returned to my room later that night I inspected everything a bit closer and found the entire floor absolutely filthy with accumulated dirt and smears everywhere. The bathroom floor was particularly disgusting. I put my shoes on to move around the room. The room furnishings were in acceptable condition bar the stained and marked walls and torn curtains. The next morning after I took a shower I used to bath mat to give the floor a quick mop with my foot after I got dressed and was not astounded to find the mat absolutely stained with filth and dirt.

I went for breakfast in the adjacent palace which was great. Very nice setting and great service but this did not make up for the condition of the room.

Upon checkout I spoke to a different receptionist and showed them the photos I took. They were very apologetic and went to speak to the manager who was within sight with their back turned to us but would not come out to deal with the situation themselves but let the receptionist take the flack. I was offered a 25euro discount on the 175euro room rate which I accepted as I wasn’t looking for a freebie but I can safely say that I will never...

Schloss Leopoldskron is undeniably stunning in terms of scenery, architecture, and its connection to The Sound of Music. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind location that feels magical at first glance. However, our experience staying here was far from ideal.

Be cautious when booking a room. Most online platforms, like Expedia, show pictures of the mansion, leading you to believe you’ll be staying there. However, upon arrival, after waiting over 30 minutes in a lobby that doesn’t resemble a traditional lobby, we were taken to a room in the other building where the lobby is located. This building had a stark, unappealing atmosphere—think hospital in a war zone. The hallways, stairs, and the room itself were small, poorly maintained, and completely disconnected from the charm of the mansion. My children were unsettled when they saw the room.

After reviewing my reservation and pictures, I spoke with the manager, who admitted the images were misleading. While they eventually offered to move us to the mansion, we had to pay several hundred Euros extra. They gave us a mere €20 discount because the elevator in the mansion wasn’t working. While the room in the mansion was beautiful, it was uncomfortably warm, and the customer service remained poor. We had to climb multiple flights of stairs to reach the room, which was challenging.

On a positive note, the scenery around the property is breathtaking. The restaurant in the mansion served a good breakfast buffet, and dining on the balcony was delightful. However, the overall experience didn’t justify the high cost, poor service, and misleading booking process.

In summary, I don’t recommend staying at Schloss Leopoldskron, whether in the mansion or the annex. However, the site is a must-visit for its beauty and history. Consider coming as part of a tour or visiting on your own. There’s a nice restaurant on the other side of the lake with views of the mansion, and a waterpark nearby is within walking distance. To visit Salzburg’s city center, you’ll need to drive...

I’ve stayed here two times prior to this year’s visit. Always have looked forward to visiting, just as I did this year again! I’ve never been so disappointed - so much so, I wouldn’t stay here again. Construction right outside our guest rooms which was loud and some made taxis unavailable to pick us up at the reception - walking through the construction site to the main road in the rain. No designated signs or clear walkway for pedestrian traffic, even on nice days. Just have to walk around a bunch of moving, dangerous construction equipment and dirty pavement. The secret library staircase closed without any advance notice, no body wash when we checked in - just an empty bottle that housekeeping never bothered to fill without us pestering them twice, we called to the front reception from our room to ask for some and they said they were too “busy” to send anything up (rude!), hand wash in the bathtub instead of body wash in our second room. Water spraying out of the bathtub hose connection. Bathtub faucet turn handle busted in standard room - went from cold to scalding hot. Stains all over the chairs in our standard room. Black hairs all over the bathroom and bed (we’re blonde), and the fan & bathroom fan in our “superior” double room were covered in hair and dust. Gross. Awful service from housekeeping for the money we spent to stay. When I told management about our experience, they offered a “sorry.” No offer of any refund or anything. The only thing we enjoyed was the location (obviously) and the amazing breakfast and wait staff service and attitude at breakfast. We stayed at the Radisson Blu two nights after here and the difference in the staff care and housekeeping was incredible. We felt very welcome there, where we felt like an inconvenience at the Schloss Leopoldskron.

Disappointing this visit as we didn't have any access to relax in the main house in common living areas. We arrived after 5 p.m. and stayed in renovated barn. We went to see the main house/Schloss which was locked and front door area totally dark. We were told later there was a door bell that we could have rung and be let in by front desk cameras but how where we to know where to find this bell in total dark? There are no lights at front door. We felt like a total criminals peaking in windows longing to sit by fireplace on cozy couch in that main common living room. My daughter went to bed disgusted. The next day after breakfast, the main living room was dissembled for an event. The lines of tables were still there the 3rd date we were there and we never got to sit in living room in front of the fire. My daughter is a trained musician and the piano was unaccessible our entire stay. I understand their website says they reserve the right to have other functions in house but those tables were there too long. The main room in Schloss was never available to us for 3 days. I had many emails with hotel management and there was a lot of miscommunication. I planned the visit to this hotel for months and left very disapppointed. I did enjoy the stunning view out back over lake but I will not be back again due to feeling like a 2nd class citizen this visit. I stayed here in 2016 and used to highly recommend this hotel. Not any more for the cost. Even if we stayed at the main Schloss the 2nd night, we never could have sat in front of the fire and relaxed in main living room. So check their "other events" before spending a lot of money AND find out where the front door bell is so you can find it in the dark.
