Gasthaus Burgschenke/Ritteressen Salzburg — Restaurant in Salzburg

People were sitting outside at the tables drinking coffee when we arrived, so we also sat down to a free table. The waiter stepped outside but stopped at the door and just kept looking at us and keeping eye contact without saying anything. After half a minute of him looking at us we asked whether we could order something, please. He said that he's the only waiter there and he is only taking orders inside. Ok, no problem, we went inside with him, where he explained again that he's the only waiter and it's impossible for him to serve both outside and inside the restaurant. I understand that it's hard for him, however it's not my problem and there are no signs anywhere saying orders are only taken inside.. but I am fine with ordering inside and taking it outside myself, so OK. After this he finally asked us what we want, I asked for coffees and desserts, after which he said that he's not serving food outside, because other people sitting outside would then also want food, which he's not willing to do. Completely absurd experience, I can't even comprehend these levels of unprofessionality and unwillingness. Took our group's money elsewhere, they were happy to accept it. Good luck doing...

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant this afternoon . The server had a poor attitude throughout our visit—he barely did anything to assist us, yet still expected a tip at checkout. I still tipped him $5 out of courtesy, mainly because another staff member—a kind woman who helped take pictures for us—was very nice.

Things got even worse when we accidentally left our camera stick at the table. I returned shortly afterward to retrieve it, and the same server pretended he hadn’t seen it. I asked him three times because I truly didn’t believe anyone would take it. Only then did he finally bring it out—but he demanded $10 to give it back. That’s completely unacceptable and felt like extortion.

This kind of behavior is incredibly unprofessional and raises serious concerns about the integrity of the staff. I won’t be returning and would not recommend this...

❌ Please avoid this place! For anyone thinking of going here please have a look at the past reviews and don’t make the same mistake as us. Very very rude staff! My wife was literally shouted at by the waiter just for asking (very politely) for a cup of hot water together with our order, to prepare some food for our baby. Also we were verbally abused by the same waiter when we decided to just pay for our order and leave. Not clean inside at the time we were there, with lots of tables with dirty dishes on even if the place was half empty. We raised all the above with the castle management and the response was that they are aware of the situation but they can’t do anything about this as the restaurant is not managed by them....
