Although it’s a brand new 5* hotel with great rooms and design, I highly don’t recommend this hotel. Their system and staff is not up to standard of a 5* hotel. It was overbooked and they moved us at 1am to a sub-standard 4* service apartment in the middle of nowhere and still expected us to pay the full price of our booking.
Their night manager Kamal was a nightmare and extremely unprofessional. We booked in advance on booking.com and the hotel took a 150 BD - $410 USD charge from us before our arrival. Upon us calling, they confirmed that this is part of their cancellation policy and on the same call we let them know we will be arriving at midnight due to our late flight. They noted this and confirmed our booking. However, once we arrived at the hotel, they told us to wait on the side. After 15 minutes we enquired what was going on, the nightmanager Kamal proceeded to ask us to move to the side to let us know that the hotel was overbooked and that they had to move us to another hotel for the night. He “moved us” away from the reception desk and this whole conversation happened in the middle of the hotel lobby. He didn’t offer us a seat or any beverages while we waited.
Kamal affirmed that the other hotel was another 5* hotel in the same area, and told us he will book the hotel car to take us there. This was completely false as the hotel was a 4* substandard service apartment that was almost a 15-20 minute drive from the Onyx Rotana, which is quite far for Bahrain. He did not book the hotel car for us, and instead ordered us an uber and did not tell the uber driver the location. The uber enquired us for the location instead, which we ofcourse did not know and I had to google it for him and lead the way in a country I have never been to.
We enquired about a refund or a reduction in price which Kamal refused to assist with and disregarded our enquiry telling us that we can deal with it the next day with the morning staff.
Overall, Kamal was treating us like we were unaware of how systems and hotel bookings work and avoiding the truth and this was completely unacceptable and disgraceful behaviour.
The next morning, we returned to the hotel to a much friendlier and honest morning management. Marcel was very sweet and helped get us a room (although smaller than the original suite that we had booked) and gave us a late check-out. We remain very disappointed because we still paid for a full first night and only a reduced second night. While neither of the nights were spent in our original booking of the family suite.
To add to all this, their breakfast is average and overly full - the staff don’t show people to their seats and just let them walk in which causes chaos with people taking the tables of others.
I personally would not return to this hotel and I believe they took much more money from us than the nights were worth. Complete disappointment and robbery. there are other 5* hotels in Bahrain Bay with better treatment and systems including the Wyndham and the...
Read moreUnfortunately, I have to give the hotel 1 star because we had an unprecedented experience at a hotel that bills itself as one of the best in Bahrain, a country where theft is strictly punishable by law.
We booked a hotel from 8 till 13 December, a family-suite with two bedrooms. Cost is more than 3000$.
The staff is always polite and courteous, the room is clean.
We always and everywhere, in all hotels, leave the stroller outside the door in front of our room. In this hotel, too, it was always outside the door. The day before the flight, we find that our stroller is not in place. When we discovered the loss, we decided that our nanny may have forgotten the stroller on the playground. We checked everything, the stroller was nowhere to be found. Then we thought that perhaps our stroller could have interfered with the cleaning of the rooms and the staff put it somewhere else (it was a strange assumption, but we are in Bahrain, they don’t steal here).
We called the reception and reported that we could not find our stroller. The hotel staff responded and soon the hotel manager contacted us and said that allegedly a mistake had occurred and other guests accidentally took our stroller with personal belongings. and suggested that we contact the guest who took our stroller and resolve the situation, because the guest is already in Saudi Arabia. and they are unlikely to return the stroller to us, but they will give us money. a man named Mashhour Al-Thabt from Saudi Arabia contacted us, said that he took our stroller and really offered to transfer money to us for it. we agreed. you will say, what kind of theft then, if a person contacted you and offered to reimburse. offer does not mean return. after we agreed, he simply stopped answering us, naturally there was no transfer. steal from children? are you serious? my child has been hysterical for several days. we bought her the same one, naturally, but she does not recognize it. in the stroller there was a favorite dress for which the child is also crying and cannot understand why she cannot put on her dress. why does the hotel have 1 star, yes because they steal from children there!!! is this with the expectation that we are tourists and will not do anything? We asked manager: “let’s call to police”, but he answered that he replied that we would resolve everything without the police
by the way, Mr. Mashhour Al-Thabt knew that we were leaving the next morning. but the miscalculation was that my husband works in Bahrain and flies back next week. and immediately from the airport he will go to the police with a statement about theft. the hotel did not even contact us and did not ask whether we had settled the...
Read moreMy recent stay at the Onyx Rotana Hotel was nothing short of exceptional. As a first-time guest, I was truly impressed by the warm hospitality and seamless service from the moment I arrived.
I initially booked a Sea View Suite, and upon check-in, I was welcomed by the contemporary elegance of the lobby—stylish, clean, and inviting. A special thanks to Mr. Ihab at the reception, who graciously upgraded me to a Family Suite. The moment I walked into the room, I was struck by the cleanliness and sophisticated interior design. The color palette and decor created a sense of comfort and luxury.
However, I soon realized that the Family Suite did not have a balcony, which was something I personally value. When I requested to return to my originally booked room, the hotel staff went above and beyond again—this time upgrading me to the Panoramic Suite. This suite exceeded all expectations: both rooms offered stunning, uninterrupted views of the sea, and the spacious seating area included a private balcony that added a perfect touch to the serene ambiance.
A heartfelt thank you to Miss Yousra from hotel management and the ever-professional Mr. Ihab at the front desk. Their attention to detail and dedication to guest satisfaction made my stay truly memorable. I’d also like to highlight the valet parking service, which was consistently efficient and well-organized.
Though I didn’t get the chance to try the food during this stay, I’ve had wonderful culinary experiences with Rotana Hotels in other countries. Their room service and breakfast offerings are among the best in the hospitality industry, known for both quality and presentation.
Finally, the infinity swimming pool was a standout feature—well-maintained and offering breathtaking views, it’s the ideal place to unwind.
In summary, Onyx Rotana delivers on luxury, service, and hospitality. I highly recommend this hotel for both leisure and business travelers, and I look forward to...
