Disappointing Experience at Best Western Heritage, Cox’s Bazar

I recently stayed at Best Western Heritage in Cox’s Bazar, and I regret to say that my experience was far from what I expected from a 5-star hotel.

Check-in Issues: I had informed the hotel about my early arrival and was told I could check in early if a room was available. I arrived at 8:30 AM after a long train journey, but was told no rooms were ready and I’d have to wait until 12:30 PM. However, upon further observation, I noticed several rooms on the same floor were unoccupied, suggesting that the hotel misled me about room availability. This was frustrating and disappointing right from the start.

Room Quality and Maintenance: When we finally entered the room, it appeared clean at first, but it quickly became clear that the hotel was lacking in basic amenities and maintenance:

a. The TV was non-smart, with poor Dish connection, making it impossible to enjoy any decent channels. In this day and age, a non-smart TV in a 5-star hotel is unacceptable.

b. Tissue boxes from the previous guest were left in the room—showing a lack of attention to hygiene.

c. Bar soap was provided instead of liquid soap—quite outdated for a hotel of this supposed caliber.

d. The air conditioner wasn’t working properly upon arrival, and after leaving it on for two hours, it cooled down to a reasonable temperature, though I prefer not to leave electronics on while away.

e. The drainage system in the shower was clogged, causing water to overflow and unpleasant material to come back up from the drain. This was not only inconvenient but also extremely unhygienic. As i used that at night, i wasn't able to call housekeeping.

Sehri Buffet Disappointment: In Ramadan, the hotel offered either breakfast or a buffet Sehri. We chose Sehri, hoping for a good meal to prepare for the day ahead. However, the offerings were limited and of poor quality:

a. The buffet included basic items like rice, rui fish, and vegetables, none of which were up to the expected standard. The fish was barely edible, and one of the vegetables was undercooked. One dessert (Jilapi) item was stale, clearly from a previous day.

Given that this was a 5-star hotel, I expected much more in terms of both variety and quality, but unfortunately, it was a major letdown.

Rooftop and Pool Access Issues: Finally, I visited the rooftop to spend some time and check out the pool, which I was told was available till 9 PM. When we returned at 8:55 PM, the entire area was locked, with no staff in sight, despite being within the advertised operating hours. Even the gym was closed, which left us feeling very disappointed. After asking about the balcony on the 10th floor, we received a response that was so unhelpful that we decided to leave the hotel and head to the beach instead.

Overall, my experience at Best Western Heritage was a far cry from what a 5-star hotel should offer. The lack of consistency, poor communication, and maintenance issues made this a stay I would not recommend to anyone. I would not be returning or recommending this hotel...
