I normally stay at another hotel in Brussels but I decided to try Martin's Brussels EU because I'd had such a positive experience previously at Martin's Klooster in Leuven.||First the positives. The breakfast was really lovely, great variety and the restaurant itself is a very nice room with lots of windows. The staff were very nice also.||The negatives. I checked in around 5pm but my room wasn't ready despite check in been 3pm. I didn't have that long to wait, maybe 20 minutes, but I thought it was very late for housekeeping to be still cleaning rooms.||The room itself - a "charming room" - was utterly depressing. Very dark decor, very poor lighting and much smaller than the same standard room in Martin's Klooster. Bathroom was very basic. I checked at reception to make sure that it was what I'd booked, rather than a lower grade room, and was assured it was. The receptionist said he'd check about an upgrade to a bigger room, and offered me a "great" room. Whilst this was slightly bigger, it was equally dark and dreary. The only lighting in the main area was two small lights on the wall at the head of the bed, and small reading lamps either side of the bed. The bathroom was tiny and basic and the toilet was located separately, in a sort of cupboard. The room was right beside the lift and the housekeeping store room, so there was a lot of noise and banging. ||At no point was I advised that there would be an additional charge for the "upgrade," so was surprised to see a €20 surcharge on my invoice. I subsequently emailed the hotel about this and they offered to knock it off a future booking, should there be one. ||Overall, apart from the breakfast and the pleasant staff, it was a...
Read moreThere’s an issue with the electronic door locking system in the rooms. When I returned to my room in the evening the door was unlocked. I could not get it to lock after I went in. The alarm kept going off randomly. The guy on reception was extremely casual and unconcerned that the door was faulty. I insisted he move me to a room with a lock that worked, a woman on her own. He went back to reception, leaving me in the corridor waiting for him to come back with a card for a room across the hall. After more than 15 mins when he still hadn’t come back I went down to reception where he was selling merch!! Even though there was another person on reception who could have done that! He had no sense of urgency or recognition of the importance that guests feel safe. It was late at night, he was so disrespectful and rude to not attend to the customer who was waiting, on her own, after requesting the minimum. He said the new room was an upgrade. I said the only upgrade I need is a door that locks! It was not an upgrade & who cares about that when you’re travelling for business. Safety the priority. I will not stay here again on any of my regular trips...

Check in went smooth, french or english, no dutch/flemish possible. Beautiful and clean reception.
Walking to our room we noticed a pleasant scent in the hallways and actually throughout the whole hotel.
The room was perfect up to our expectations. We had a room with spa bath. We would recommend it to everyone.
Visiting the city is easy with metro stop Schumann in walking distance.
The night ambience in the hotel is pleasant, not too many noises or disturbances.
Breakfast has a very high standard. English and french breakfast available. Lots of fruit and vegetables. Various types of eggs and milk. Suprised by the waffle maker and took good use of it. Very well made waffle dough!
Check out friendly and smooth by new employee ( said so on the badge) Wished us well on our day.
Which brings us to one small remark. The staff only aknowledge their guests if you talk to them first. We like to receive a goodmorning/evening when we enter or leave the lobby/restaurant/bar
Beside this small remark we can highly recommend this hotel and we will definitly return here when we visit...
