Just returned from 11 days at Parrot Cove Lodge. There were many positives, starting with the staff and location! The water was clean and clear. Eddie or Orlando spent a lot of time raking the beach and keeping the whole lodge looking good and working properly. I will mention information I wish I knew before chosing this location. We had an amazing 1 bdrm 3rd floor penthouse but there was no mention that it is 48 steps on 2 winding cement staircases with steps of varying width, to get to said room. Be prepared for the day before leaving for breakfast. Which was plentiful, but lacked variety. They will make a to go breakfast you can pick up the night before if you have to leave early for a tour. It is only a few pieces of fruit and PB&J on a bun, but it's something. A hard boiled egg would be a welcome addition. Dinners were not as amazing as advertised. They were good but very one note, flavour wise. And, as at every restaurant, except Bahay Fiesta, a highly recommended 5 min walk up the road, there were never enough vegetables in any dish!! There is nowhere to purchase a snack closer than a 2.5 km bike ride (narrow roads, no lights, 'casual' drivers) or golf cart ride ($$). Parrot Cove doesn't offer lunch but there are several restaurants near by that do. Best to contact any location on Whats App as hours etc on Google were not reliable. There is Rico the parrot, near the pool, that whistles and makes noise starting at sunrise, daily, clearly heard in every room. Many staff members joked that we were welcome to take him home with us. We didn't feel pressure to book additional tours, but we could tell from the number of staff who mentioned booking some, and the frequency they did, that this was an income stream for them. For convenience, let the friendly, accommodating office staff book your adventures & pedicures. Or save $$ and book directly with any of the local tour companies. We had to ask for brighter light bulbs in our rooms, #21 and #13. We could not read by the 40 watt bulbs. It was a bit of a hassle, I asked if Eddie could just give me a bulb. Had to check with Rob, then said he would change all bulbs in the room. I didn't want that and had to insist that he please just hand me 2 bulbs & I would change them where required. Rob passed by us during that discussion time & he was obviously displeased at his employee who was doing his best to accommodate the wishes of this guest. Big deal? Not really, we were able to 'see' in our room but felt like we had caused a problem for the staff. Not all rooms have hairdryers or a bottle opener. Stop at the front desk, not bar, at Beaches and Dreams to buy cheap beer and pop for your room. In general, the lodge could use a major refresh in the rooms, our couch & chairs in room were only comfy with added pillows. The location is unbeatable and the...
Read moreWe absolutely LOVED our stay at Parrot Cove. We could not have been happier. The rooms were simple but large enough to be roomy. The pool was clean and nice. But the best reasons to choose Parrot Cove are the beach, the restaurant, and the staff. We opted in for the dinner package and the food was amazing. However, breakfast was our favorite part of the day. We would start the day looking at the ocean and eating amazing food. It was so relaxing. The beach was not crowded and we never had to fight for beach chairs. There were a few times when we had the beach totally to ourselves. There are lots of ocean toys that guests can use for free anytime. There are also bikes that you can use to bike into Hopkins which we did frequently. The best reason by far to stay at Parrot Cove is the staff. We adored everyone we met. They were super helpful and friendly but most importantly really fun to talk to. Just a few of the amazing staff: ||Mike and King were excellent servers at the restaurant. We could not have | enjoyed them more. Maritza was very helpful in booking our excursions and just generally super friendly. Orlando drove us to a couple places, and he was really interesting to talk to. We learned a lot about Belizean from him. However, the shining star for us during our trip was Tish, who works at the restaurant. She felt like a friend by the end of our stay, and we were sad to leave her. We were genuinely excited to see her at breakfast and dinner. She works extremely hard and is the absolute best. ||Couple things of note: |1) The sand flies are pretty bad in the morning and at night. Bring or buy bug spray once you arrive. I believe this is something that is common anywhere in Belize, but we did not know that until after we arrived. |2) Rico the Parrot is extremely talkative. We adored him and found him hilarious but if you don’t like sound of parrots this isn’t the place for you. |3) We had a poolside room and it was pretty bright in our room during the night. We figured out a way to block some of the light and it wasn’t a problem, but you may want to bring a sleep mask if you're...
