The Newstead Belmont Resort & Spa property is beautiful and very picturesque. My husband & I shared a one-bedroom suite equipped with a full kitchen, microwave, stove top, dish washer, dining table and chairs, 2 baths and spa like main bathroom. It had a built-in refrigerator, and a stand-alone full-size refrigerator. Luckily the second refrigerator was in working condition. We had panoramic views of the water in both the living room & bedroom that was adjacent to Hamilton. The hotel also offered a free ferry into Hamilton that ran in the mornings, and again after 5pm. ||The spa offered massages, and I took advantage of the 50-minute Swedish massage. It was very enjoyable but very pricey. Their restaurant called the Aurora offered good food, but they restrict paying guests from utilizing the restaurant when special events were setup. We were not allowed to utilize the restaurant on two occasions, during our stay. That needs to change if they want to remain competitive. Paying guest should always have access to the on-site restaurant. The hotel also does not have a gift shop. It did have a snack closet, so you could get water, juice, and a few snacks. There is a fitness center, but with all the stairs in this resort, you probably won't need to use any of the fitness equipment.||The front desk clerks were not very accommodating or eager to share details that would enhance your vacation. A few of the front desk clerks were nice, but a couple were not very friendly nor eager to please. One in particular advised us to take a bus to the Royal Navy Dockyard, when there was a ferry that operated daily for only $5 dollars, after taking their free ferry into Hamilton. The ferry to the Dockyard took only 20 minutes and trips were available all day every day. ||The hotel didn't offer tours of the island, but they recommend their special taxis for tours. Unfortunately, the hotel's choice was at a higher rate. We decided to engage a regular taxi to give us our tour of the island for $50 dollars an hour, while the hotel engaged taxis that charge $65 dollars an hour, both with a three-hour minimum. Our taxi gave us a great tour and we shared a meal with great conversation.||Our main bathroom had a little mildew in the ceiling, and one morning I awoke to find a roach on the countertop. We killed and flushed it, and then advised the front desk to engage an exterminator. Someone was sent to spray the room immediately, so it was handled properly. The shower handle also came off in my husband's hands, while trying to start the shower. Luckily it went back into place without incident. The shower tub was so slick we both almost fell in the tub. We had to request a shower mat. We had to use a towel to get in and out of the tub, until they furnished a bathmat. ||The pool & jacuzzi were beautiful, but the jacuzzi jets were broken. We had to ask someone to turn on the jets every time we used the jacuzzi. There were also missing tiles in the jacuzzi, which caused me to bruise my arm. The bar staff was not interested in being accommodating or friendly. When we asked if someone could assist with turning on the jacuzzi jets she was very dismissive. We decided to just relax in the water since it was heated.||The resort was built in 2008, and now is in need of some repairs. If they plan to continue to charge such expensive prices, they should start to take care of the repairs.||We thought the island overall was beautiful, and the locals were very friendly. Our suggestion is to make friends with your taxi driver and try to arrange tours and ask for restaurant suggestions to enhance your dining. The food will be expensive, and the souvenirs will be costly, but the views of Bermuda...
Read moreI spent a week here with my husband and 2 kids, my sister and her husband and 2 kids and my Mother. We had a wonderful week! Bermuda is a beautiful island full of kind people. We will definately be back! Here is the good and bad about Newstead.||Good|-Location! Right across the harbor from Hamilton. Hotel offers water taxi to and from Hamilton several times a day. They also run a van shuttle to Coco Reef resort. They have a small but beautiful beach with chairs and you can walk to elbow beach from here as well. |-Room! We had a 2 bedroom suite. Balcony overlooks the Harbor. Beds, furniture and decor are not fancy but there was plenty of room for all of us and it is comfortable. Having the small kitchen was great so that we didn't have to eat out for every meal. We had groceries delivered.|-Housekeeping/Cleanliness! Everything is spotless.|-Pool! The infinity pool is gorgeous.|-Restaurant and pool bar! Great food and drinks. Even stuff the kids would eat.||Bad|-The ladies at the front desk are not helpful at all. When we checked in two women were on their cell phones. I stood there for an awkward 10 minutes waiting for them to finish and for one of them to ask if I needed help. I had some resort credit vouchers from the rewards program The Guest Book. I presented them upon check in and neither knew what to do with them or how I was to use them. Even by the end of our stay I had drink vouchers that went unused because no one there could tell me how to properly redeem them. During our stay they were not interested in answering questions about the best way to get to certain parts of the island and often just responded that they didn't know. The day before we checked out I asked for them to schedule 2 taxis to take our group to the airport. They said they would and then didn't do it. We were late getting to the airport. Check out is 11 am. We planned to leave for the airport at noon. The morning of our departure I asked if we could stay in the room until then and I was told we could. Then at 11:30 the front desk called to say that check out was at 11:00. I told her that the other woman at the desk said we could stay until 12 and she told me that she didn't remember telling me that. She said that she had not talked to me that day implying that I was lying. It was just rude.|-Rooms need some fixes/updating. No hot water in one of the showers. Oven is not really an oven - more of a microwave/convection oven that didn't work very well. Flooring uneven in spots. Paint needed retouching in spots.||Overall this place is great and I probably would not hesitate to stay here again. If it weren't for the behavior of the women at the front desk I would have given a 5 star review. Other members of the staff - doorman, servers, housekeeping, water taxi and shuttle operators - were all wonderfully kind and went above and beyond...
Read moreThe best thing about this hotel is definitely the location. The easy access to Hamilton via the hotels ferry gives it the edge. The pool area was nice and quiet with a beautiful view of Hamilton. The ferry was on time and the captain was lovely and personable. I do wish they'd run the ferry back and forth for a few hours in the morning and evenings rather than just once every hour. I don't see why they would just do one trip across and back and then have it sit there for a full hour with a captain on board.||We stayed in a one bedroom suite which was very spacious and enjoyed the full kitchen. Try to ask for a room on the second or third floor as the main floor (on the same level as the lobby) has a wall instead of balcony bars and it's impossible to see the view if you sit down. They need bar height out outdoor furniture for these rooms. ||The biggest disappointment was the beach shuttle. It was often late when departing for the beach and one morning the lady at the front desk couldn't find the driver so we sat there for 20 minutes until he finally showed up. They advertise it as available every hour between 8 and 6pm on their website but in reality they only offer it every other hour. This means the pickup at 4pm from coco reef is often very crowded. Several days the shuttle driver also never showed up. Once we took a taxi and the other time we stood there for 35 minutes until it finally arrived. If you stay here, just factor in the 10-15$ taxi far to get to and from the beach at your...
